The Plastics Factory which supplied the weapons in DAWN was owned by Gary Zeller (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0954609/), who specialized in explosion and fire effects for film.

I had won an auction for Stephen's revolver from one of Zeller's agents, but it turned out to be a different gun, so I settled for one of the Jager M16 clones used by the SWAT guys. :D

Is it a .22cal replicant of an AR-15?
I knew a guy years back who had one.
Probly not this same one, but there are alot of AR replicants in .22cal.
They'd be nice to toy around on if they were inexpensive. But if they cost as much as an average .22 rifle I wouldn't bother.

I'm by no means a gun expert. But I'm thinking that the sights would need some serious modifications to compensate for the lower power round.
I know that .223 is the same diameter as .22LR, but that's not the only consideration.

What I do know is that the weapon pictured above was used in the film, and was modified by Gary Zeller so that it will no longer fire.

From what I understand it is one of the better replicas of an M-16 that were made to fire .22 LR. I don't know that it needs a special sight since those sights (on the original M-16 and the Jager AP-74) are adjustible.

Mine is similarly disabled, but I love it all the same.

How is it disabled though?
Did they fill the barrel and receiver? Or is it just a matter of replacing the whole firing mechanism?

After reading that page I see some other problems now.
Fran and Stephen are using an iron sighted Marlin 983 .22magnum to put down zombies all the way across the whole complex. That's some crazy skill!!!

Some of the caliber numbers might be mistakes too. Like some of the rifles are listed as 7.92mm which I've never heard of myself. But 7.62mm is a very common rifle and machine gun caliber for even foreign weapons.
But I'm not sure I'm not that knowledgeable.

For most people I think the best weapon on the page is the Mossberg500. It's a common weapon and caliber so parts and ammo would be more easily acquired. Handguns require experience for distance shots so if you never fired one before you'd have to let them get real close.
The Deerslayer is nice too but would require more maintenance and parts would be harder to come by.
Biggest problem with firearms in general would be maintenance. More complex weapons require more, which requires specific knowledge and often specific tools.
So if you're ever in that situation don't just grab a bunch of guns and ammo. Make sure it's a gun that's easy to use and take care of, and grab alot of replacement parts for that particular weapon and cleaning supplies and lubricant.

7.92mm is commonly refered to as 8mm mauser. Its the German standard rifle round for WWII all the way back to black powder days. Very similar to .30-06

In the 70's, "sporterized" version of military surplus rifles were common for hunting, which is why regular gun shops carried 7.92 back then. I nmodern times 8mm is really only used by military suplus collectors.
