Well, each got worse IMHO, so that doesn't bode well for it/them?

he met the Wachowski's (no emphasis on the word brothers), for lunch over Christmas and stated that they had completed work on a two picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of the matrix as Neo. Says the brothers have met with Jim Cameron to discuss the pro's and con's of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again. keanu stated that he still has an obligation to the fans to deliver a movie worthy of the title "The Matrix" and he swears this time that the treatment will truly revolutionise the action genre like the first movie.

If it was two movies as good as the first movie, then sure ... but I don't want 2 and 3 again.

Now, 2 and 3 had some excellent action sequences in them, but the main problem was the scripts - all loaded down with pretentious philosophy, needlessly flowery dialogue (*ergo ahem* The Architect *condordant cough*), and a real stiffness ... they felt joyless, unlike the first movie which had a sense of wonder - and even humour - about it all. 2 and 3 were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too seri-arse.

If they've genuinely learnt the lessons of 2 and 3, as well as flippin' Speed Racer, and have something that's truly worthwhile seeing, then okay ... but man, there's going to be a lot of scepticism floating around.

more flicks in the matrix universe? hell yes. more neo? why? his story is done, beginning middle end. the animatrix showed theres plenty more that can be done, unless its a rehash of 3 or some adult version of tron i cant see where they go with neo.

Absolutely! The first had a fairly logical set of solid rules... The other two went all over the shop so it felt like they were constantly cheating!

Exactly! I'd like to see something more like the one with the kids in the Animatrix... that was just awesome...
That said, I think a movie version of Serial Experiments Lain would be really cool, but I doubt that'll ever happen...

IMO....they should just let it go. They captured lightning in a bottle once, tried to repeat it twice more, and failed. If they have it in them to come up with the Matrix in the first place, they should just abandon any continuation of that series and come up with an all new science fiction flick. There's no reason to continue beating that dead horse.

Take Ridley Scott for example. He started out with returning to the Alien franchise and has since branched out and realized he could do an entirely different piece of science fiction...

The Matrix is one of the best movies around. Matrix 2 & 3 are just untenable mishmashes of plot goo. At best they are excuses to make fight scenes.

Of course, they could go the Star Trek route - reboot the franchise with a time travel deviation that invalidates the previous installments and paves the way for a future filled with an even dumber, but hipper, take on the franchise. Maybe throw in some emo vampires while they're at it and maybe a few hormone riddled wizards fighting the muggles. People love that sh*t.

....so what you're saying is that you DIDN'T like the Trek reboot?

I personally love it. But regardless of it's quality, I thought the time travel explanation changed nothing from the original series? It's like Doc's drawing board in Back To The Future 2 - There's a Trek timeline A, and a Trek timeline B. Neither being the definitive version, just two sides to the same coin.

I never was a hude fan of Trek, anyway. I had seen all of the films, some of the OS, and most of TNG, but I thought the latest was one of the best reboots around. Up there with Casino Royale and Batman Begins.

I actually liked part 2 a lot. Now that time has passed, the first is far superior, but I do enjoy the 2nd one a great deal. The 3rd is where it jumps the shark. I say bring it on, and hopefully they have learned from their mistakes.

I think this is a mistake. The second one was so bad that I didn't even bother with the third one due to hearing how it "wasn't as good as the second".

Off topic, but whoever wrote that article needs to be fired or severely reprimanded for their poor journalism skills. "and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again." That sentence makes absolutely no sense. On top of poorly worded sentences, the article is also plagued with punctuation errors and fails to capitalize the beginning of sentences as well as Keanu Reeve's name multiple times! Sorry, but I just got an 'A' in journalism this past semester so I've been nitpicking "journalists" "work" lately. ....man, I sound pretentious.

I hated the new Star Trek travesty with every fiber of my being.

I agree that the time travel angle did not intend to change anything from the original series, but I fail to see how changing those few events in Kirk's past caused Star Fleet to become a group of mismanaged short-sighted buffoons. They should've never let Kirk on a ship much less allow him to see the bridge much less let him land in the captain's chair. They took all the reasons why Kirk inspired confidence and turned them into a mockery.

But I digress. I'm gonna try to check my nerd rage....

Matrix 4 & 5... I'm totally okay with them. Meaning I liked the whole Matrix universe enough to be intrigued to know more, and I don't think they could do any extra damage to the franchise... so why not? What the hey?

question: whats so bad about the 3rd matrix film? now i get the problem with 2, that fucking pointless merovingian twat, but 3 was a satisfying enough conclusion but it didnt wrap it up in a way where neo suddenly fixed everything forever return of the jedi style. it had an ending that was neither good nor bad, it just meant the status quo had changed.

Honestly theres so much more they could do with that universe, not just within the matrix but the cyber punk world earth has become. after the war ended did human and machine work to try and restore the sky? did the archetect show up in the matrix white house and call a press conference saying "heres the truth, leave or stay its up to you". the 3rd flick does what a good flick should, it ends the protagonists story, but leaves you wanting so much more about the universe, same with blade runner or ghost in the shell.

A while back i had this great idea for a matrix series, wish i could remember it, but like i said theres so many venues to take, even little character things- like what if you formed in your test tube in the real world missing a leg at birth? would you matrix self be missing it or when you jacked in would you walk like a normal person? theres such much shit they could do.

Well... oh well, it was a nice possibility, anyway... I guess... We need more cyberpunk movies, dammit!
"What ever happened to that Gorillaz movie we were going to make?" - 2D
"Which one? We've done like, I dunno, twelve scripts, or something." - Murdoc

...and as the jury reaches its conclusion the man answers a cell phone and disappears...

Did any of you ever see the Game Informer (Game Infarcer) send-up of Matrix? It was freakin hilarious. "Neos" the Cheerios like cereal. Talk of the next episodes making sense. Lots of stuff. I'll look to see if I can find it.
