ARE YOU READY FOR THIS SHIT.

its set in 1998, at the time of resident evil 2. in raccoon city. you can play survivors, umbrella soldiers- or monsters, or the us special forces.
Its a large sandbox raccoon city during the outbreak with missions, big bosses and puzzles and its all fucking online.

I think we have a new game to play together to replace left 4 dead if its half as impressive as it sounds.

This could truly be some fun shit...and you'd better believe I expect to be playing with others here.

That said--and I'm sure there's an interesting story about this--can anyone tell me why the city was named Racoon City? I never liked the name, but I assume there must be some weird rationale behind it. I actually wonder if I knew the answer to this question at some point in the past...

hmmm. could be good, could be shit. here's hoping they have a decent SP mode or story, instead of just making it solely about the MP experience.

one thing that troubles me is a description i read that talks about leon kennedy being a high-value target the players must eliminate.....seems kinda odd, since leon was a transferring rookie and had just arrived in RC during the events this game is depicting. hopefully they don't do a bunch of retconning and fuck the story up (more that it already is these days).

could be fantastic if done right, but could also easily be a major fuck-up. i'm slightly optimistic, slightly skeptical on this one.

Can't wait for screens/video of this.

Along with the announcement that Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D contains a demo for Resident Evil: Revelations, Capcom seems to be going all out for the 15th anniversary of this series.

Edit: Ah, magazine scans at the link, nice!

Just found some more info; regarding the order to kill Leon, it seems you can change the history of Resident Evil depending on the choices you make, very cool:

---------

- One of the main missions of the game is to “kill Leon” thus signifying the ability to change the history of Resident Evil.

- You’re able to use enemies (like zombies) as cover even while moving.

- Like other third-person shooters you’ll also be able to take cover behind objects like stationary vehicles.

- The game will pay respects to the classic titles (Resident Evil 2 and 3) by bringing back that sense of horror that’s been missing.

- The base inspiration for the foundation of the game is noted as being Resident Evil 2.

- We’ll get more insight towards Mr. X before he was sent to Raccoon City to pursue Leon/ Claire.

- Leon is your main prey throughout the game (in regards to the USS team)

- Previous controls have been abandoned in place for a more modern control set akin to today’s third-person shooters.

- Capcom is behind such a change in game-play and this is why they approached Slant Six over the development of such a project.

- As aforementioned you’ll be able to grab enemies and use them as cover which will add to the game’s team-based strategic style.

- We’re going to get a very dark look at the classic city in the game with new and iconic locales.

- The end of the demo showed off a battle with Mr. X.

- The USS team takes their inspiration largely from Mr. Death himself, the 4th survivor Hunk. The team is also situated on Rockfort Island which is another locale fans recognize.

- Hunters and Lickers are confirmed and they’ll be able to also mow down zombies if they’re in the way of their destruction.

- Operation Raccoon City will let players see the story of the Resident Evil universe (pre-RE4) from a whole new perspective.

- Shooting lights will be one of the mechanics in the game and doing so will help you stay clear of zombies due to them being attracted to said light.

- Environments will have destructible objects for you to use agains the hordes of zombies.

- Capcom remains silent over topics relating to the game’s multiplayer mode and what other surprises the game’s story may have for players. We’ll likely hear more about this game at E3 so stay tuned.

If this game is worth buying, then which system? 360, PS3, or PC?

for me ps3 most likely, its the only one ive never had problems with a resi game on. any other system and ive had tons of corrupt game data or unfinishable corrupt datadiscs and shit. call it superstitious but ive never had a bad resident evil experience on a playstation.

-plus most of my mates who are sold on this have dropped there 360s in favor of ps3s anyway and truth be told im on mine once in a blue moon.

Whoa, this sounds amazing. Lets hope they can pull it off...

I've been a fan of the RE series since a few months after the first one released; its one of my favorite games of all time. I feel like they weren't really able to touch that greatness again, after RE:2. Still enjoyed (most of) the other games... but none of them REALLY did it for me like the first two installments.

definitely digging the atmosphere. the dark and foggy night is something we've not seen much in the last couple of RE games.

i just hope the MP mode doesn't have ridiculous shit like killstreaks or something, and that there's a decent SP campaign/story.

I agree the atmosphere looks solid.

yeah, i'm gaining more optimism for this as i see more, but i'm definitely not purchasing it blind w/o a demo or reading at least a handful of glowing reviews.

oh god, please let this be 3rd person and not first person.

It looks like it's third person from the pictures above, although I would prefer it to be something like Fallout 3 where you can choose which view to use.
