View Full Version : I call him Bub...

Frankenstein

Hello everyone, how's it going? This is my first post on here and I thought I'd make it a good one. I am a huge fan of Romero's zombie films, especially Day Of The Dead. That film has always been my favorite. The characters, the score, and the fact that I can call Gary Klar (Steel) a personal friend of mine does not hurt either.

I thought I would share my Bub mask with all of you on here. Some of you have probably seen this before, it's the U-FUQ made by Rich Krusell. This is copy #1.

It's great to be a part of a cool zombie board.

Cheers! :D

Very nice. Welcome to the boards! Day is my favorite of the trilogy as well. In fact, it seems recently that it may be the #1 favorite on these boards. Followed closely by Dawn, of course.

Welcome to the boards, Frankenstein! It's a good crew here, and Day is a favorite of many of us.

Sweet mask; is that homemade, or did you find it somewhere? What's it's story?

Gary Klar is pure class. Me and my puppet crew just loves the guy.

Enjoy your stay!

that's an amazingly-detailed mask, man. welcome to the boards. like it says in my profile, i really would have a hard time picking a fave of the original trilogy. they are all brilliant in their own way and i personally view all of them as a whole.

Whups!

Missed that. Prolly should read slower when the search nazi's right there. :D

I should probably get back to work.

(I'm making a merkin for a full-body puppet for a drawing night here at the puppet studio.)

Hey now that's not fair. That's got nothing to do with searching. Just reading before you post. :p

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone.

As far as the masks is concerned, Rich made a handful of these a few years ago. I am not sure on the exact amount, but I am sure it is less than 10. These days, they sell for $500 - $600 easy, if you can actually track one down.

BillyRay, like you said, Gary is pure class.

Welcome to the boards, man! That is a very nice mask, I don't think I've seen one as detailed as that before.

Thank you, Ghost Of War.

There is no doubt about it, Rich's Bub is the best that has ever been made. My good friend Tommy just sculpted one & it turned out really nice, too. Once he is finished with it, and ready to sell them, I will post them here...just in case anybody is interested. On a related note, Tommy, Gary Klar, and myself are in the early planning stages of putting together a cool Private Steel mask or bust. If it turns out like we hope, it will be a package deal of a few goodies.

Wow, that mask is seriously amazing! Lucky... One thing though, I think you didn't post enough pictures of it... Maybe a few more.

I'm glad you dig the mask. I apologize for it being such a pic heavy post. It's such a photogenic piece that I could not just choose a few.

After looking up what I could about these masks, I have a question. Can you actually wear it as a mask or is it more of a statue or bust? Looking at your pictures I don't see any distinctive eye or breathing holes. Plus theres no cut on the neck to allow entry.

Also, what exactly is it made of? Looking around(including the mask site you originally posted it on. ;) ), I've seen some say it's more like a rubbery mask material, and some say it's more of a solid resin(hard) copy taken from the original mold.

Frankenstein
01-Apr-2011, 03:55 PM
bassman, the mask is not wearable. It is made of thick latex, and it is not cut to be worn. I am not sure if Rich made any other copies out of different material, I believe they are all latex. That being said, it is a bit harder than other latex masks.

Welcome to the boards! And that mask is awesome :) I guess you can tell by my siggy, Bub is actually my favourite character of the Trilogy, and Day my favorite movie :) I would love to see wearable Bub masks once they're done.:D

I think my friend will have his Bub mask finished very soon. I will be sure to post pics & details here.

If your buddy's version comes out even close to this one, you can count me in on one if the price is right.

Gonna buy one of those store mannequins, put the head on it, dress it in the proper clothing, and chain it to my man cave wall. That way I'll always have bub to hang out with. :p

Yojimbo and AcesandEights, thanks for the welcome, it's great to be here!

bassman, that is a wicked idea about the mannequin. Make sure you have Beethoven's 9th ready to go.

Tommy's Bub won't look just like the U-FUQ I posted, but I think it will look really good. Here are a few VERY early sculpt pics that he shared a few months ago. I think he said he was only about 1 to 2 hours into sculpting when he took these photos.

Only one to two hours in those pics?!? If he can get all that done in one or two hours, I can't wait to see the finished product. Do you know if he's shooting for a general price range and will it be latex like yours, or another material?

Frankenstein
08-Apr-2011, 04:51 PM
I just got off the phone with Tommy and he said he should have a painted proto copy finished within a week or two. He also said they would be around $200 plus shipping. He can make them wearable or as a display only bust, and they will be made of latex. I sent him a link to this site & I think he may sign up so he can give you all the info you need.

Luckily, rongravy, Tommy will be making display copies so you won't have any super glue accidents. Hahaha.

They are $155 shipped in the U.S.A., and $165 shipped overseas. If you are interested in purchasing one, please email Tommy at ghastlyproductions@zoomtown.com.

It's impressive, but there are few things that seem a bit....off. The eyes don't look like Bub's and the jaw seems to be slanted too far forward. The jaw isn't as large an issue as the eyes. The brow is a bit too slanted and they may be a bit too close together?

I don't mean to be rude, it's an impressive sculpt. Just a bit of constructive criticism. :)

Just busts, or masks as well?

Frankenstein
26-May-2011, 09:22 PM
bassman, I understand that you did not mean it to be rude. Keep in mind that the U-FUQ piece runs about $500 to $600, and that is if you can even find one these days, they are super rare. Tommy set out to make a mask/bust that looks good & is affordable. I believe he did that.

Gryphon, he can make it as a bust or a mask.

Wow that's really great Tommy! Awesome job. I'd love a Bub bust on my desktop or on a shelf somewhere in my work area of my house. In fact, I'd love a full bodied Bub in the foyer to greet my guests... Oh hell! Who am I kidding.. I'm a serious zombie fanatic and a sick bastard anyway, If my wife would let me (and there were such a thing as real zombies) I'd have a real zombie on a chain at my front door to freak out the neighbors. Maybe even feed the to him even! But that's not likely to happen. :( You did a great job dude. Kudos!!!!
