I have a buddy who's wife has been trying to get her foot in the door in the acting world doing small gigs. Well, just watched one of the trailers and she sorta makes out with some other dudes in it and I was kinda stunned. Acting or not, I wouldn't be comfortable with my wife doing that sorta stuff. How about you guys/gals?

If it was me I probably wouldnt have a problem with it, but say I did but it was her dream to get into acting, then I would let her go to persue that. Jealousy is an ugly emotion!

There should be an option for indifferent. I wouldn't be over the moon about it, but acting is acting and there is nothing less romantic/enjoyable than kissing someone you don't love in a room surrounded by dozens of crew members all staring at you, pointing cameras at you, and then having to do it ten or fifteen times to get the shot right.

Don't really see the problem... Seems like a kinda "victorian" moral dilemma.

I wouldn't say so, Ned. Jealously and possessiveness are timeless.

It's hard to say, but in the end it is just a job. That's what they're paid to do - act like someone else. As Kraken mentioned above, I doubt it's anything remotely sexual when you've got to do it multiple times while crowds of people stand around watching. Not to mention she doesn't get to select the person she's acting with, so that man may be completely revolting to her...

I really wouldn't care, because at the end of the day I know she is coming home to blow me... so whatever. Now if she started having an affair with her co-star... that would piss me off, unless it is another chick she is bringing home to share. :elol:

Step aside, guy with a Theatre Degree coming through...:D
Kraken is correct that the process of filming an on-screen love scenes takes all the romance out of it. Hell, in live theatre, by the time you get to an actual performance, it's been rehearsed over and over again. It's another piece of blocking by that point. Walk stage left, kiss, exit stage right. There's only the illusion of romance.
Not to say that actual romantic relationships don't get sparked by onstage chemistry; I know plenty of married actor couples that met while working together. But Theatre is like Porn in that sense. A partner "in the biz" will be far less jealous, and far more understanding than somebody unfamiliar with the process. Ultimately, if your buddy's marriage is built on trust, there won't be any problems. If it isn't, then he's got more to worry about than just one on-screen kiss.

I am not going to get in the way of two actors who fall for each other on set, not my problem, as long as their significant other doesn't show up and shoot everyone I don't care who stcks there dick in who. Like BR says, if both are in the biz they know what is going on... but if one is not and has no familiarity with the process... Look the fuck out.

Can't really vote because for me it's not really approve/disapprove. It's more like. . .I don't care. I don't really approve, because approving of your woman kissing another man sounds wrong. But I would . . .allow it i guess? is that the word I'm looking for? I dunno. . . .semantics. I guess I approve. if that is the closest option to what I mean. I'm definitely not answering "Shit Yeah" tho

I chose 'Shit Yeah!'. Because it includes the word 'shit'. And I like that word.
Also, I don't have a significant other at the moment, so... Shit Yeah!!1!

So it's ok if they do it lots of times with crowds watching, and they don't get to choose who they do it with. This one's for you, bassman!

I can't answer this as a 'yes' or 'no' type thing. It really depends on the situation.
If it's for a shitty short film I'm making, then hell no, she's not making out with anyone but ME.
If it's for a big(ger) movie and she's getting paid a decent amount, I'd be okay with it.
I'm also realizing I sound like I pimp my girlfriend out...

Most of those points could be applied to a lot of jobs, particuarly jobs in Customer Service :p
The main, devastating difference is that a stripper is performing specifically to induce sexual interest from his or her audience, whereas an actor seeks to portray a character convincingly.

I don't know that you could apply THOSE to most other jobs....and what kind of customer service are YOU receiving?!? :rockbrow:

Oh, they're both portraying a character, and attempting to elicit a response via a convincing performance...it's just the type of performance & the response they're attempting to elicit differs...;)
(And lest we got any further, I don't have any agenda here...I just took Bass' off the cuff comment & ran with it. All comparisons made are purely for the purposes of humor & I have never known any strippers. Or actresses. Or strippers who wanted to be actresses. :) )

Welll... :D
Desperately seeking approval? Not so much approval, but Sales Advisors are often desperate to seek a positive outcome from their customers (i.e. bonus/meeting sales target/avoiding being fired)
Performing in front of others for money? You have to put on a happy, cheery, personable, professional attitude even when you hate your job and the customers you serve.
Morals discarded in scramble for fame and fortune? Morals discarded in scramble to meet sales targets.
Dress up in costumes & pretend to be someone else? Wearing a stupid uniform.
Pretend they love you, but it's really just an act? Pretend to care whether or not the customer "has a nice day", when in reality all you care about is how soon you can find another job.
Have to make sure they hit their mark & have well rehearsed moves? Ever had to follow a sales script?
The more convincing their performance the better they get paid? Thankfully I've never had to to do a job where it's been entirely commission-based, but a lot of folks do.
Appear warm & open while performing, but can become nervous, distant, or even hostile if approached by their fans in public? When I worked at Blockbuster I used to have people recognise me on my lunch breaks (thanks to my uniform) and try to hand me their DVD returns right there in the street. Needless to say I did not provide them particularly professional service on those occasions :p
Mommy or daddy issues? Okay, you got me on this one. :D
