Seems from the reports that they just ended up in a bad part of town by mistake & paid for it with their lives, shame as they both looked to be decent lads :(

Two tourists in the projects at three a.m.? My guess is they met a guy at a bar that was going to hook them up with some pot or coke. Possibly something worse. The guy drove them there and the deal either went south or as the article suggests, the locals planned to take them down for the money and valuables.

The lesson? Stay away from the ghetto parts of town at night....

Dude, just stay out of Florida.

There's nothing worth going to Florida for.

It's America's wang!

Annoying this 16 year old polution to the gene pool has taken out what appears to be two nice and intelligent young lads...

I thought there were universal "wrong side of the tracks" signs that are recognized across the globe. Bars over doors and windows, shoes hanging from power lines, cars up on blocks with the wheels missing, 30 people gathered on a 6 x 6 stoop regardless of the time of day, etc. :p

Why would anyone want to go to Florida? You'd have to learn Spanish in order to get around anywhere, no thanks.

I'd prefer to remain in states where English is still the primary language. I generally hate traveling anyway. Everything I need is within 20 miles of me.

This type of thing is one of the reasons I explicitly hate traveling -- I'm always convinced I'll end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

j.p.

There's a big sign at the border that says "Welcome to Florida"... :D

Wait, is that a bad part of town or an old episode of Sanford and Son?

Nah, it's where Cuban refugees park their bath tubs.

They say it's a possibility they were given a ride. Whether or not they knew where they were going is up in the air.

Officers are investigating whether the pair had thought they were being given a lift back to their holiday apartment, but were instead driven to the tough housing project to be ambushed.

As I said before, I would put money on it that they met the guy in a bar and he offered them a lift to somewhere.

Rugby athletes are impervious to bullets. They don't want that getting around too much here in the states, but it's true...

Sad.

I lived in Sarasota, there is an area there
Naples, Marcos Island, and Sarasota that used to be
mostly "Gods waiting room" for the retired elderly but
now has become more tourist, its on the gulf side of Florida
and right near the glades, in fact Highway 75 which crosses
Florida from the East to the West coast is called 'Alligator Alley"
goes fron Naples to Ft Lauderdale.

I have a friend who is a camera man for the news WWSB ABC 7
in Sarasota he told me that those 2 guys were robbed. Seems there
is even a witness to the shooting as well, report came into the
cops by a lady 'white guy is lying in the street'.

Florida is like most major US States, you can be in a good part
of town and in 10 mins u can be in Hell itself.
the amout of guns on these particular
streets is beyond imaginiation.

DisneyWorld is a self contained entitiy, but
dont go to parts of Orlando or Sanford,
Not a good idea, unless you can shoot back.

There has become a great divide between the have and
have nots especailly recently, which is not news to anyone.
And Florida is LOADED with illegal immigrants, and sorry
but true, most of them are not the type of ppl u want living
near you.
If u think im being an asshole about that well then u go to where
they are and try to make friends,
Just let me know where to send the body bag.
But dont get me wrong, some of the locals are pieces of shit too.

Sad these 2 young men had to die like this, simply met the wrong
person who marked them as easy targets.
But if anything, take into account that Florida is not the place you
want to get arrested. like they say "Florida nice weather-harsh penal system"
and "Come to Florida on Vacation, and leave on Probation".
The suspect is a minor at this point, but he surely will be tried as an adult
and double homicide with the intent to rob carries the death penalty.
Dont know if that will be used, but either way he might as well have shot
himself too, cuz his life is over for all intents.

No matter where you travel you have to be aware
of your surroundings.
The people of the area are very upset by what happened to these
2 young men and u can bet ur ass that person who did it
WILL NOT get away with it.

Watch the news, my friend said that there is video and
other stuff going to be released soon.

I've been to that part of Orlando. Will never forget the Big Lots store on Colonial. Since it was a rough neighborhood we went at 9:30 in the morning. Store hours say the place is open but the doors were locked half open. So narrow only one person could enter or exit the store at a time. If you had a cart full of merchandise the manager had to unlock the doors. Apparently it was to prevent shoplifting.

They went with a stranger? Has there been news I've not heard?

They blurbed it on the news on the LCD in the cafe at work... saying someone brought them there... I have to assume stranger because who the fuck do they know in the US that lives in the shitty part of town?
