Hmmm... Not sure if that would work these days?

They would definitely be taking a huge risk on it. I would be up for an animated series, but where the hell is Abram's Star Trek Sequel? I'm dying to see that. Hopefully he'll jump into that right after Super 8 is over.

I just can't get excited about Super 8 for some reason?!

It might have something to do with the secrecy surrounding it? I'm not really excited about it, but I'm interested to see once and for all what it's really about. The trailers make it look like an old school Spielberg film, so it definitely has my attention.

But like I mentioned before.....i'm more interested to see what happens with Trek 2.

While I realize I'm in a seemingly MAJOR minority here, I really hated Trek 11. This news, however, might get me interested in some new Trek. It might be jarring to have Shatner, Nimoy and other surviving original cast members to do their character's voices, they could (and should) be offered some appearances.

Quoting myself for an update.

Looks like I, along with all the fans, am going to have to wait even longer for Trek 2 (http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/star-trek-2-boldly-goingto-get-pushed-back-six-months). It's only six months from the original premiere date, but it's a safe bet to say they'll push it back even further in the future. I believe the first film's release was changed several times.

Oh well. At least they're taking their time to do it right. At this stage, most other franchises would be on the second or third shitty sequel by now. So I would much rather have longer gaps and better films...

AT least it's not a minority of one. I hated it too. Even discounting any Classic Trek fanboy "You've destroyed Gene Roddenberry's childhood!" whining or whatever on my part & judging it as it's own thing I found it appallingly bad on almost every level & daft to boot. :duh:

Are you SURE you judged it as it's own thing? Like....really SURE?

i was never a huge fan of the OS, Movies, TNG, etc.....but i've seen a lot of it and I think the new Trek was a great addition. It seemed to me(again, not a trekker by any means) that it was VERY faithful to the source material while still injecting the series with the life that it desperately needed. I understand that fans will be fans and opinions are like bums, but I just don't see how anyone can straight up call this movie a disaster. Not a fan pleaser? Sure? Not your thing? Sure. But appallingly bad? It's no MST3K contender....

As much as I can be. It's hard not to compare, but even setting comparisons aside I still found it to be terrible.

No, but that doesn't mean it isn't a right old pile of cack either, to channel my inner-MZ. Sorry but IMO it's big dumb a'plosion fun w/ a Star Trek gloss coat applied over it. Star Trek as made by Michael Bay if you will. I found it poorly written & it barely made a lick of sense. Hate it.http://www.runemasterstudios.com/graemlins/images/snooty.gif

 I love that cross-armed smiley.

Fair enough.

I was actually surprised to see the reception the reboot received. I figured it would be like the Star Wars prequels and hardcore fans would hate it with a passion like you, but it was actually received pretty well if gross and ratings are to be considered. But I wonder if the Trek Reboot is the equivalent of the Dawn04/Land discussions over on the trek forums.

I think casual-to-passing fans received it a lot better (& honestly, they were the target audience IMO), not crusty old "Trekers" who are quite frankly a minority & a dying breed. Financially, to make a successful film, I think they made all the right moves. But I don't have to like it. :(

I've peeked in there a couple of times, Short answer. Yes.

From what I saw the argument breaks down at the...

Shootem'? Is that you? :p

Just not your tastes, I guess. I'm sure there are a lot of Trek fans who feel that way, but I loved it as a change up, as I have only liked some of the previous Trek film outings.

Yeah, I willingly concede that I'm in the minority, for reasons I still can't explain as the movie was quite popular & successful, but *meh* there it is. :|

I have seen the sentiment as mine expressed here & there though, so I'm not completely alone in feeling that way about it. ;)
