Looks good...

But Lucas co-wrote it, so probably mad & bad! Let's just hope he didn't write any dialog, any action scenes, or anything else...

ps: Bryan Cranston is in it. But then he's in everything at the moment!

Nice! Looks like a good one to go see with the old man.

It's kinda weird seeing the lucasfilm logo in front of something that isn't star wars....

Have to say the action just looks too arcadey!!? ie: Defies realism. Which I guess means Lucas probably got too involved!

This could be good if Spielberg was behind it, but as it stands everything about it feels very false and hokey. They are covering an interesting and poignant story, but judging by the trailer they have cheapened it with stilled dialogue, peppered it with cornball Oprah-esque "meaningful" lines, and retextured Star Wars aerial battles, and called it done.

In other words, it's been LUCAS'D!

Looks fake, fake, fake. No thanks. Lucas hasn't made a good film in 20+ years, so if he is retiring it's long overdue.

And Cuba Gooding Junior? Seriously? This was the best actor the man who made "Star Wars" could get?

j.p.

I agree.

And further, I feel as though I've seen this story a few times...and it usually feels kinda preachy. Sometimes the best way to make a statement is to be lowkey about it and stick with the facts, that's all I'm saying on the issue. That, and I usually don't find WWII air combat as interesting as WWII ground, or even naval combat, so it's just doesn't seem as compelling a premise for me.

I watched the trailer without sound. Thought the arial scenes looked a bit "gamey".

Having immersed myself in the history of WWII for nearly two decades, I can already tell that I will be bitterly disapointed by this film. Probably full of cliche (like the 332nd never losing a bomber under it's escort) and jingoism, like much of Hollywood's "war" output.

On a positive note, at least the animators have tried to get the aircraft right for the most part shape wise, but the Reich Defence band on the 109's at the start is SOOOO wrong and the Totenkopf on the aircraft nose? Who the hell was the historical consultanton this?

WTF? No doubt there'll be hundreds of German 109's and 190's in the air, when in reality it was a very different story indeed. Fighter aircraft (like the 109's from JG 3 at the beginning of the trailer) would not be flying that close to each other either!

Arrgghh...I'm already pissed off.

Awwwww come on, Boat Trip like a mofo. Girl had some moves...
Guess you'd be happier if they'd called Denzel?
Jamie Foxx perhaps?

Ehhhhh, I might see this when it hits the cheapies.

The Curtiss P-40 fighters at 1:01 look good. Just add the shark mouth for a future Flying Tigers movie.

Another mediocre review - http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/Red-Tails-5678.html

Wearing its heart and ideals on its sleeve, Red Tails is hard not to root for, but impossible to love all the same. It's bursting with promising young talent on the screen, but behind the camera Hemingway and Lucas are incapable of eking out a story from what ought to be fascinating and revelatory history. The 332nd Fighter Group has long deserved its moment in the spotlight, but they also deserve a movie better than this one.

i offer the best proof that this movie, much like liam neeson's upcoming "the greys" is a complete and total piece of shit: it's being released at the end of january. jan and feb are infamous for being the hollywood equivalents of a junkyard/scrapyard/dumping ground for trash.

I think that's kind of changed in recent years. More and more they're starting to release better films at the beginning of the year. I remember being shocked that Gran Torino was in January. Same for big budget releases like Cloverfield.

In fact, you mentioned Liam Neeson and his awesome flick "Taken" was released in January...

Saw this one the other night. Ehhhhhh, it wasn't bad. Could've done with less jaw jacking and more fighting, that's my biggest complaint. Pretty much there were only two real fight scenes...
I don't think it was the piece of shit everyone was/is calling it. It was entertaining enough.
Definitely not a blockbuster, but still...

So given this is supposedly Lucas' last film, he's gone out on a bit of a whimper?

It can also fall flat when people realise that's all it is. ie: Just promotion with little to actually back it up...
