Yeah....you're thinking of the right franchise. There you have the title of John Mclane's fifth outting as a guy having a bad day. A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD (http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/die-hard-5-gets-its-gimmicky-title-and-a-release-date). :|

Set for release on Valentine's Day 2013.:rockbrow: Directed by the guy behind The Omen remake and Behind Enemy Lines.

I enjoyed the last film(Live Free or Die Hard), and I know many people didn't. So for that reason i'm definitely willing to give this a chance, but that title and the release date are big WTF moments.

The last one was...oddly enough...decent, if they're doing another hopefully it will put the franchise to bed once and for all.

Hopefully.

Plot added:
Since the first "Die Hard" in 1988, John McClane (Bruce Willis) has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the skills and attitude to always be the last man standing, making him enemy #1 for terrorists the world over. Now, McClane faces his greatest challenge ever, this time on an international stage, when his estranged son Jack is caught up in the daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and father and son McClane must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.

Another "save a family member" story? Damn, they could at least come up with something outside of the McClane family. Another reason to love the third film even more.(My favorite)

I am a big Die Hard fan. The original, that is. I saw it in the theater and it changed my view of what is possible in an action movie. The plot was well laid out, complex yet plausible, twisty yet believable. Not at all contrived. And most of all... the hero was no action star. He was best known for Moonlighting of all things. And the action was (mostly) kept in the realm of believable. The hero runs across broken glass and his feet get cut.

Live Free or Die Hard was a decent movie. I enjoyed it. More than the previous 2 in fact. The characters were a good step up from either of the predecessors and the plot was much more interesting. But they lost a lot of what made the original groundbreaking. They gave up on being believable action. "You took out a helicopter with a car." Okay, fine. The complete indestructibility of him hurt the movie for me.

They can keep making Die Hard as long as they keep bringing the intelligent, compelling plot. I won't get tired of it.

You mean to tell me you didn't think McClane surfing on a dump truck through the aquaduct in DH3 wasn't believable?

Kidding aside, i've never seen the series as having truly believable action. Some of it kinda teeters on the edge of possible, but there are very unbelievable things in all four of the films. I can look past that for Willis' portrayal of the character. He's just a likeable character. It's kinda like Lethal Weapon, I just love watching Riggs and Murtaugh interact.

Speaking of the "partner" interaction, imo, DH3 was perfect for that reason. Willis and Jackson play off each other flawlessly in that movie. One of the reasons I like it more than the original. Willis and Long were pretty good in DH4, but Jackson is definitely the best partner to McClane.

Yeah, I couldn't stand the 3rd film when I first saw it in the theater and, even now, consider the ending quite poor and anticlimactic, but I eventually came to really appreciate the banter and interaction. Overall it is so much more thoroughly thought out and entertaining compared to the 2nd.

Can't watch this teaser with volume right now, so I guess my jury, anyway, is still out on the initial impression...but McClane in Russia could be cool.

Well it looks bombastic enough, that's for sure.

Hopefully they temper some of the overkill of Die Hard 4 (e.g. McClane on the wing of a fucking fighter jet), which pushed it too far from McClane being the New York Cop in over his head. It was fun, but it went a bit too over-the-top. I warmed to DH4 (in its adjusted form with a few added CGI blood spurts and a bit of effin' & jeffin' tossed in) ... speaking of which, any word on the rating? I dearly hope they don't pussify DH5 ... the hindsight re-jig for DVD on DH4 only did a fraction to pull it back.

As for Die Hard 3 - I love that flick. It's right behind the first one for me. I absolutely loved it - but unfortunately it was cut in the UK when originally released and I'm not sure if it's been released fully uncut here. Some bloody violence was trimmed out, and numerous expletives got redubbed too. I've got the cut version on pan & scan VHS, so I'd like to make a significant upgrade to an uncut Blu-Ray sometime.

I still can't help but giggle at the tv edit at the beginning of DH3:

As for the Die Hard series on blu ray - in R1 there's a nice set with all four movies and tons of features for a very low price. It's about the same price as one movie. Not sure if your region has the same, but I think it would be worth a look. Commentaries, deleted scenes, making of's, and an alternate ending to DH3 that I think Aces would be interested in seeing. It originally ended much differently.

Unfortunately it appears that DH3 on the American Blu-Ray is Region A. :(

There is a UK one, but I don't know whether it's uncut or not, and the extras aren't as good (no alternate ending).

I seem to remember hearing that the UK release was a bit of a let down, but I could be wrong. Will have to investigate further.

This is the original ending to DH3. Very strange if you think of it tacked on at the end of the film we have now....

Blimey, I'm glad they went for him going to Canada and taking him out directly in a big finish. That was an interesting alternative, but I can totally see why they didn't use that ending.

pffff. Looks like a run of the mill, videogame inspired movie. To draw in the kids presumably. Sigh.
