I don't know of an official Dawn of the Dead WGON helicopter model, so I tried to make my own. This is a project i've had in the works for many moons now and i'm finally trying to finish it.
It's not really the correct helicopter model, but it's as close as I could get. The paint layout isn't exactly correct either, but it's close enough to be recognizable, imo. I've also got to find a good copy of the WGON logo that can be downsized without losing the quality. Any help with that would be much appreciated.

This guy knows the area....

The Dawn family. The helicopter is smaller, that's why it will be hanging elsewhere.

Lookin' sweet, Bass!

Hey, you if you ever display in-depth you can always play with perspective to make the smaller copter look like it's a proper size, but just in the background :)

Good job Sir Bass! Those models are sweet as well.
Is that a 'mondo' poster of Dawn you have there? It looks fantastic. You lucky man. Geek envy. ;)

Yeah, it's originally from the poster book but it's a blown up version that someone was recently offering on Ebay. There's a thread about it around here somewhere.

Boss media room there man..good to see that I'm not the only one who has action figures..or really, statuettes, in the case of the Dawn figs, laying around..I'm in the process (have been for more than a year now) of moving back into my house after living in an apartment for a few years now, and I plan on doing up my old bedroom into a media room..going to have a bigscreen in there (bigger than my current Vizio 42 inch plasma), all my game systems and crap in there..any advice would be awesome on home theater equipment? Anybody?

Thanks for the complement but that's only a very small area. There's much, much more nerd items lining that room.

Bass, try this link. Matt's site has a pretty nice logo that you might be able to cannibalize for your chopper!

Nice work Bassy.
I have a 1/72 scale 1967 Jet ranger helicopter that I have to make. I'm now thinking of doing it in the WOGN colours.

I'll look into it, thanks!

1/72?!? And I thought my 1/32 scale was small! 1/72 would be damn near impossible for me to put together and paint. This is the model I used, btw....

Then of course I just paused the dvd to try and get the paint scheme as close as I could.
Thanks for the kind words, everyone! Looking at the photos again, i'm actually not pleased with the first one. The paint job looks horrible that close, but when it's viewed on the shelf(like the third photo) it appears much more clean. I guess my hands weren't quite as steady with a brush as they used to be. I'll post a finished photo when I can figure out how to get the WGON logo and the call letters on there...

1/32 is way too big for me. Nowhere to put it. I still have no house due to the flooding last year.
Also masking tape is your friend Bass!

Bass, thanks for the inspiration! I'm going to try my hand at one of these as well. I wouldn't dream of freehand painting it though, I'd have to at least try to tape it first. Again, thanks for the inspirado!

I actually did try taping it and it didn't work. The paint kept bleeding through the tape lines. I even used that "Frog Tape" stuff that's not supposed to do that!
Good luck with yours and post pics!

Nice work, Bassman.
The model you used looks just like the one in the movie. What member of the Jet Ranger family of helicopters was the WGON helicopter?

It's a Bell Jet Ranger. The difference I noticed is that the WGON chopper has a label of model II, while the model I used is a III. What the difference is, I have no idea.

Probably just some internal electric stuff then.
I believe I will join you in building the WGON Helicopter.
I will order the model you bought then I will size the WGON logo. I will design it at work and produce the decals. I will then contact you to send you some, so hold fire.
I will hopefully get this done before I am admitted to hospital.
I have a date with a surgical saw and will be available for "eaten below the knee" zombie victim #1 for any future UK zombie movies.
God, if I didnt still retain a sense of humour I would go back on to the M8 and let another truck finish the job the first one failed to complete. :duh:
