Only a few years shy of 2015, Mattel is finally releasing an offical Hoverboard (http://www.mattycollector.com/store/matty/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.247060500) from Back to the Future Part II.

Great Scott, film fans! You won't need a flux capacitor to fulfill your density because the first ever Hoverboard prop replica from the classic Back to the Future™ trilogy is coming to MattyCollector.com in 2012!

Movie-accurate down to the smallest detail and fully sanctioned by Universal Studios, this is a 1:1 scale model (measures approximately 28" x 8" x 3"). Our Hoverboard includes authentic "whooshing" sounds sampled directly from the films and a deco featuring Mattel logos just like in the films. And although full hovering technology isn't expected until 2015, be assured your Hoverboard will gently glide over most level surfaces (it will not, however, work on water).

The $120 price tag may seem a bit extreme, but I can vouch for Mattel's previous prop replicas. I own both their Ghostbusters PKE Meter and Trap and they're nothing short of amazing. Great sound, lighting effects, the trap even jumps and vibrates after "catching a ghost".

While hoverboards have been available from fan sources for years, with sounds and the ability to "glide", this is going to be a sure thing for me.

There was a company that used to sell replicas of the hoverboard, packaged also with Grey's Sports Almanac, translucent receipt, and Blast From The Past bag on eBay. Wish I had gotten that package from them when I had the chance, as I can recall it was around $100... now the Almanac alone seems to go for $50+
