Looks like it may finally be happening!

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Robert-Rodriguez-Sin-City-Sequel-Start-Production-Soon-30407.html

Dimension Films has announced that Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - the new official title - is now scheduled to start production shortly. The press release from the studio doesn't have any specific dates, but AR Films and Quick Draw Productions are on-board to produce. The story is being kept under wraps and it's unclear if the sequel will be taking on multiple stories like the first film, but the Miller story A Dame To Kill For centers on Dwight McCarthy (played by Clive Owen in the original) who finds himself in a serious amount of trouble when an ex-flame named Ava contacts him and says that someone is looking to kill her. Casting begins next week and it's expected that actors from the first film will return for their second tour of duty.

Keep in mind that Rodriguez also stated they were well into preproduction back around 2007. Then again in 2009. Then again in 2011 he said it wouldn't start until after Machete Kills.

I'll believe it when we get a trailer. Which shouldn't be very long considering how fast Rodriguez films everything in his garage....

Sometimes it seems with RR that he's biting off more than he can chew at any one time, so he's all about one thing, but then he's off to something else. He does shoot fast, mind ... but it would be nice - as a fan - to have a bit of consistent news regarding what we're supposed to be looking forward to. Sin City 2 has been long overdue though. It's now been seven years since the first movie, blimey, how time flies!

Then again, Danny Trejo isn't getting any younger (he's in his mid sixties apparently! Doing well for his age, that's for sure!), so if they've got two more flicks in that franchise to do, they've gotta do them swiftly.

Rodriguez:

"[Rourke is] all excited to come back, but he's probably the first one," Rodriguez said. "I saw Rosario [Dawson] too. I ran into her for something else, and she's pumped. They've always been excited about doing another one, so that will be fun."

Surprised to hear Rourke is excited about reprising Marv. I've heard before that he hated the makeup process....

Maybe we'll get a trailer announcing the world premiere of the actual trailer. Its not like anyone has done that before. :shifty: :D

No, no, no. You've got it all wrong. The announcement trailers are old news. Now we have pre-announcement trailers that announce the announcement trailer. After that there's a re-cap trailer to cover the pre-announcement trailer and announcement trailer. Before the trailer we get a photo of the studio behind the film giving us the middle finger, THEN the real trailer.

Rodriguez released a teaser poster. I guess that's one step closer to it actually happening this time. Confirmation of Miller co-directing, as well.

A few details:

http://www.totalfilm.com/news/release-date-confirmed-for-3d-sin-city-2

First things first, and that all-important release date has been confirmed as 4 October 2013. That's when the film will open in the US, with the UK date likely to follow in short order.

Next, we have confirmation that Jessica Alba will join Mickey Rourke in the long-awaited sequel, with both stars named in an official press release. Rosario Dawson is also expected to reappear, although her name is conspicuous by its absence in the official blurb.

What is included is the news that the film will be presented in 3D, lending a new element to the distinctive look of the first film.

I remember when they were originally talking about having Sin City 2 out for Xmas 2006.

I absolutely love the film flick, so I'm super-duper up for this.

Jaimie King is back as Wendy and they've recast Miho, for whatever reason.

Bruce Willis in sequel - http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Bruce-Willis-Coming-Back-Sin-City-Sequel-35225.html

“Bruce is back, so he will be seen,” Rodriguez states, though he stays vague beyond that, and I’m OK with it. We don’t want to have all of the surprises from a second Sin City spoiled long before Rodriguez even completes filming. He does talk in the clip about his filming process on these films, shooting actors as their schedules become available and then puzzle-piecing it all together after the fact. In addition to Willis, he mentioned roles for Juno Temple, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who’ll star in a story titled The Long, Bad Night.

I'm very excited for this - I've been waiting for this since 2006 (remember when they were saying Sin City 2 was going to be a winter 2006 release? :p), and by the sounds of it, it'll be following hot-on-the-heels of the new Machete movie which finally got a release date after some awkward legal delays.

But she'd really first caught my attention in Kingdom of Heaven, then Casino Royale and The Golden Compass.

Those eyes ... say no more.

Delayed by nearly a year!
http://dailydead.com/sin-city-sequel-release-moved-to-2014/

Was supposed to be coming out in October, now it's pushed back to August 2014 - and that's not even a firm date, seemingly.

No reason given as yet. Bummer. :(

Post is finished on "A Dame to Kill For" and Miller/Rodriguez are already thinking about a third film: http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/robert-rodriguez-and-frank-miller-are-already-thinking-about-sin-city-3

Hopefully it doesn't take another 9 years for a third film. Now where's a trailer for "A Dame..."???

Did you see Moonrise Kingdom by any chance? Willis was quite good in that one; Though mostly because he was playing against type.

To be fair, Moonrise Kingdom is a good movie, and Willis is good in it. He won't have got paid for it much, but he seemed to enjoy that experience far more than any of these big action flicks he gets paid the big bucks for. Surely he's got enough cash now that he could just invest wisely and only do the projects he wanted to do, and then not be such a "greedy & lazy" grump most of the time (so Sly seemed to suggest when Expendables 3 was getting cast).

Anyway - woo, looking forward to Sin City 2 ... do you remember when they originally said it would come out in 2006?

Sin City 2 TV spot banned because of Eva Green's nipple!

And here is the single frame complete with nipple that caused the ban... Make sure no young children are around in case they should see this truly adult material!!!

http://www.cinemablend.com/images/news/66798/_1408143181.jpg

But TBH if you watch the trailer below at 16s you can clearly see it, so - some what like Eva - they had a point!

Here's the TV spot...

Heaven forfend the sight of a nipple in silhouette! :stunned:

Eva Green's cracking norks have caused controversy with this film before - apparently the shadow of her boob through a night gown (again, in silhouette) was too much for the soccer moms and that film poster was forcibly censored to save the children of the world who've never heard of Google Image Search. :p

The two versions:
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/06/04/article-2648797-1E77F1C100000578-842_1024x615_large.jpg

Purely salacious filth of the highest order, I'm sure you'll agree.

...

Some reviewers are down on the film, but others are up on it. The downers sound somewhat curious complaining about it being too much like the first film ... what, you mean, like it's a sequel to Sin City? Oh dear, lol! ... and another strange complaint (from IGN, IIRC) was that the noir themes were too cliched or whatever. I guess they didn't see the first movie, then.

I'm not sure whether I'll see it in the cinema. It's an absolute definite Blu-Ray purchase for me, although they double-dipped on the first movie ... but hopefully it'll be a single release this time around.

Wow, it's really not doing so well. 8th place, and only a little over 6 million?
I vaguely recall seeing the first, and not really caring for it.
The good news is Guardians went back up to the top spot for the weekend, and will soon be the number one movie of 2014.
Sin City 2 and If I Stay...
What a crap weekend for new releases. I may see the new Transformers or Malificent at the discount theater instead today, if'n I go. I was going to see America, but it is a documentary. I'll wait for it on Netflix...

The silhouette of her nipple in the TV spot suggests to me there's CGI involved there too! ie: It's just too perfect! Or am I showing my inner perv :o
