Which mouse and keyboard is best for pro-gaming ?

I am fps (Cod) and mmo player (wow, lotro and fallen earth).I never bought those shiny gaming keyboards and mouses before.I want to give it a try ; but as you know they are very expensive.So i need your advices.

Well, I don't know what you tell you as far as a keyboard goes, as I use a standard one. As far as a mouse, I'm partial to Razer (http://www.razerzone.com/) mice as they are designed for gaming and FPS games in particular.

The one I currently am using is the Razer ProClick v1.6 (http://www.razerzone.com.br/products/gaming_pro_solution/click_16/). It's a bit more low-profile than most, and there's others out there with much higher sensitivity, but this one serves me very well during my gaming.

They can be found on eBay and almost all over the web cheaper than you can get them on Razer's website. Look around, you'll find some good prices for them. ;)

Now that I've typed this out, what exactly is the correct plural of a computer "mouse"? is it mouses? mice? meeses? I'm confused.. :lol:

In all seriousness, how can the WASD keys and a mouse really make any significant difference?! Surely they can't increase your reaction time/accuracy etc!?

I use a 10+ year old keyboard and a standard microsoft mouse and do just fine :)

A higher resolution mouse will improve accuracy quite a bit. I agree about the keyboard (unless you want to purchase one of those specially laid out keyboard specifically designed for FPS games), but a mouse can make a significant difference between winning a match and getting your ass handed to you in an FPS game, especially when you're playing with extremely good players.

Put it this way, you'll never see "pro" gamers using a standard Microsoft mouse. ;)

Because in most mmorpgs you have to assign 3459739587 keys to the keyboard for the abilities and its hard to reach easly to all in combat.So if you want to react fast,you need more useful shortcuts.Thats why i am thinking to buy this baby

As you can see there are lots of shortcuts for your thumb and you can easly reach it.

Besides that ,there are some keyboards to improve the reaction time of your buttons.
You can see the difference easly.Just press and hold with one letter of your keyboard in notepad then try that with the improved keyboard.

Ignoring extra buttons - which of course may prove useful in some cases, if we consider just movement...

A standard mouse I believe has about an 800dpi and can certinaly detect less than one milimeter of movement. Try is... See? Also as you move the cursor around with your mouse, does it go off in odd directions, or does it move absolutely as you'd expect to the exact pixel?

So, how can a gaming mouse with 5600dpi improve this?


Now I've not experienced a gaming mouse so can't comment if somehow my cursor can move more accurately, but I certainly can't envisage how when it moves absolutely accurately now :)

I see it akin to super duper gold plated £30 HDMI leads. People buy those thinking it will make their picture better, when infact a £1 HDMI lead will do exactly the same.

I suspect I'm missing something, but I can't see what!?


EDIT: having just spoken to some people with gamnig mice, I clearly must be wrong, as they say they could all feel the difference in accuracy!

Yes, actually I do. I used to use a Microsoft mouse with 800dpi of resolution. My current Razer mouse is 1600dpi and makes a hell of a difference as far as accuracy goes - and my mouse is a few years old, they make them with way higher resolutions than 1600dpi now. :D

Also, remember that you can actually "weight" the mouse movement with some of these higher-end mice. For example: if I move the mouse two inches to the left at a slow speed, the mouse remains consistent and directly correlates the pointer on screen with the amount of movement of the actual mouse. If I whip the mouse to the left at a really fast speed, you can set the mouse to slow down that movement a bit and compensate for the "too-quick" of a movement.

This becomes VERY handy when you're playing a FPS game in an "arena deathmatch" type of situation (say, playing Quake III with a bunch of others on a small map) where you get so amped up and hyper that your mouse movements become erratic because there's so much stuff going on at a break-neck pace around you. This "weighting" of the mouse movement can make a huge difference by trying to "even out" your movements so you can be more accurate.

Believe me, I never thought moving to a higher DPI on a mouse would make a difference at all - that is until I got my razer mouse at the insistence of one of my semi-pro gamer friends. It really did make a huge difference in my gaming. I don't understand everything it does to do so, but the higher dpi, the ability to "weight" the movement, it really does help.

Try it, you won't be disappointed. :)

I have been using for many years a Belkin Nostromo n52 speedpad and a Logitech G9 mouse for mmo and fps. The n52 took a while to get used to, but now I wouldn't use anything else for gaming even though I have a Logitech g15 keyboard. Belkin stopped production of the n52, but Razer picked it up and they now produce their version of it. I would like to use a Razer Naga, but at this time I cannot justify spending over $100 for just a mouse.

Its a Rush Fireglider, the lit up button in the middle alters your scrolling speed which is handy in FPS games like Battlefield 3, that split second makes all the difference when someones about to knife you in the back! The mouse has removable weights inside it too so you can make it lighter or heavier depending on your preference. As for keyboard I've got a nice Logitech one, it doesnt give me any kind of advantage in games or anything but it feels nice to use and doesnt have that cheap "rattley" feel that a bog standard keyboard has.

I've just started assigning stuff to the other buttons on a mouse. I've got my shout in Skyrim on one of the thumb buttons. That one with twelve buttons does indeed seem like a good thing.

Ok, I have to admit this is the first time I've seen that thing (did a quick google search) and wow - I wish I had one of those things! I wasn't sure what you meant by a 'speed pad' until I looked it up - then realized that thing has to be handy as hell for FPS games! :D
