Well, looks like they're finally filming it!

Mad Max: Fury Road will be a re-imagining of, not sequel or a prequel to, George Miller's own 1979 cult classic with Hardy taking over the titular role made famous by Mel Gibson. I find it fascinating when filmmakers remake their own work (Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much or Haneke's Funny Games to name a few), so I'm looking forward to see what Miller does with his old material, especially since it has been over 30 years since his first film with Max.

Some seriously groovy eighties style designs going on. It appears this movie could look as gritty as the original trilogy.
Now let's hope they tone down on the CGI and have as much real stunts/practical FX in there as they can; Perhaps this film will break the George curse (Romero/Lucas) of diminishing returns.

Have they decided if this is a sequel or a reboot? I remember an unveiling of the "new" Interceptor several years ago, but it was destroyed in The Road Warrior, so yeah..what's the dillyo?

First look at Max.
Cautiously optimistic. With Miller directing this is still more his than Gibsons's baby.

Not really been following this, but catching up on the pictures, it looks like we're in for a good time - great looking vehicles, costumes, and tools of the world - plus Hardy looks hard-as-nails in Max format ... is he Max, or could he be Max's son?

I've still not watched Thunderdome, mind.

I think he is. As far as I understand it this is just a continuation of the same character as the one Gibson used to play. The connection between the original three was kinda loose to begin with. Mas being a bit like a Sergio Leone type 'Man with no name.'
Not THAT reliable, but IMDB lists Hardy as Max. If anyone can pull it of it's him.

Also: damn that truck looks great.

It's a cheesy good time. In fact, it's probably my favorite in a pure entertainment sort of way.

Is he Max? Isn't he Max?

Let's get it straight: with this character is doesn't matter. I'd rather have it left ambiguous, myself, but let's face it: characterization, aside from the 1st film perhaps, was never the intent with these moody, set-piece, car-worshiping, actioners. And that isn't always a bad thing.

I'm pretty sure it's been stated by the director and Hardy himself that he is indeed Max....

I bet the relevant departments had a shedload of fun making up and creating all those vehicle designs - this flick certainly won't be left wanting for kick arse motors. :D
