Well, I have to disagree.
I read the book and those shots just seem a little too camp for my taste. I never envisaged something out of Bollywood when i read the book but that's what this trailer reminds me of.
+ Where the hell are the other animals on the lifeboat?
Personally looking forward more to cloud Atlas as far as films based on novels are concerned. Then again that book was so much better than Pi ...

^^ That's strange... I look at the cast involved with "Cloud Atlas" and it just bothers me. ie: A bucket load of celebrities in there :( Rather see mainly unknowns without a load of baggage!

You have a point about the cast. Especially Tom Hanks can get on my nerves in certain films. But still; Cloud Atlas is so awesome (and damn hard to visualise and put in a two to three hour feature film) that I'm looking forward to how it will turn out on the screen; It's going to be either a trainwreck or one of the very best movies of next year.
The shots set in the future certainly look the part and it doesn't appear like a dumbed down version of the admittedly very ambitious novel ...

I heartily recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet.

As for Life of Pi....I know nothing about the book and it seems a bit heavy with the CGI, but after Brokeback Mountain i'm on board for whatever Ang Lee does.

Simply put, Life of Pi is glorious. A marvel that takes 3D to new heights with its crisp rendering of dreamlike landscapes and its fierce yet fascinating feline co-star, all while delivering a poignant and inspiring story of human endurance. I very rarely insist moviegoers seek out 3D screenings, but for this film if you see it in 2D you will be only seeing half of it.

LIFE OF PI is simply too beautiful a film and too captivating a story to dismiss because of a questionable ending. And while I'm never in favor of turning off your brain in order to enjoy a movie, it does sometimes help if you don't overthink certain offerings. This is a film that made me believe in the impossible, and yes, maybe even a little in God's magic powers. And I'll say this again, if you don't see this in 3-D, you aren't really experiencing it; it's critical and necessary.

As a critic, I can see the flaws in LIFE OF PI, but as a lifelong film lover, searching for that rush of emotion and beauty every time I sit in my own darkened church, I cherished it. Those moments overran my misgivings, and LIFE OF PI was a powerful cinematic experience for me.

I saw this at the weekend, its beautifully shot and a really good film I thought. The tiger is utterly convincing, CGI was used the way it should be here. Strange how it makes you feel claustrophobic despite being set mostly in the huge endless pacific ocean. I really liked the 3d as well, it worked well during the storm scenes.

Just like the Japanese guys had to do in the film when interviewing Pi about the sinking, its left up to the viewer to decide which version of the story they prefer. Either story seems plausible but the story he tells at the end seems more realistic than the story with the Tiger & carnivorous island.

^^ Yeh, that's what I thought... but it all seemed a bit meh. Maybe the book brings some more meaning/relevance to the animal version!? Indeed there seemed to be a huge religious introduction at the beginning, which sort of felt unmerited later?
