According to Deadline, the role Carrey is being targeted for is the Colonel, who founds the superhero group Justice Forever, which eventually recruits the title hero (Aaron Johnson) as well as Donald Faison's Doctor Gravity and Robert Emms' Insect Man. Together, they all band together to take on Red Mist (a returning Christopher Mintz-Plasse), who changes his name along the way to the Mother Fucker.
Carrey is said to be a huge fan of Matthew Vaughn's first film, but whether or not that will carry over into some participation in the sequel remains to be seen. Universal has their fingers crossed, and it'd definitely be a different type of role for Carrey to take at this point in his career, as a hard-R superhero flick is hardly the first project that you'd associate with him. I'm hoping where there's smoke, there's some fire on this front.

How can you say that without having seen a sequel? It might be as good?

Of course there's a chance it will be good. There's also a better chance that it will be blah, as well as a pretty good chance it will not even live up to that tepid level of expectation. Cash-in follow ups more often than not see a deleterious effect on quality. Hollywood needs to start leaving things be sometimes.

About freaking time. Finally a sequel I can go nuts waiting for, if it happens.
What about Hit Girl? It doesn't say anything about her, the only thing I heard was on Wiki and they said Morris Chestnut was going to replace the other guy as her guardian.
She's alot bigger than she was then. 5 years older at least already...

Well, considering the COMIC launched a sequel & a "Hit Girl" spinoff I don't really see the objection...
Now the COMIC PREquel to "Watchmen" launched sans Moore? Yeah, cash in. But since there is precedent here, why not? :|

Ugh, loved the first but after reading the second book no thanks.
let me save you time:
red mist kills his dad, violently rapes his girlfriend and mutilates some kids then kick ass breaks his legs and throws him off a building. all the rest is completely forgotten after the set up.
dont waste your money on it. it blows.

Kidding, but this is one of the few sequels I've really been hoping/praying for. That redband was awesome, I can't wait to see Motherfucker in action. I was so sad to see Big Daddy go in the first one, but after seeing Jim doing it up in this one...
Man, I can't wait. I may even take the day off to see it before the crowds and idiots that might try to spoil it for me actually do, crinkling papers and tapdancing on the back of my seat.

Thought this was interesting:
Jim Carrey Distances Himself from "Kick-Ass 2," Mark Millar Responds (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=46246)
Jim Carrey, who donned a Kick-Ass costume for Conan O'Brien's stage show more than two years before being cast in the sequel to the brutal 2010 superhero comedy, has suddenly distanced himself from the film because of its violent content.
"I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence," the actor, who plays the baseball bat-wielding vigilante Colonel Stars and Stripes, wrote Sunday on Twitter. "My apologies [...] to others involve with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart."
Carrey's anti-violence stance doesn't come as a surprise -- his "Cold Dead Hand" parody video at Funny or Die outraged many gun-rights advocates earlier this year -- but the timing of his statement does: The massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School occurred more than six months ago, and "Kick-Ass 2" opens in less than two months (Aug. 14 in the United Kingdom and Aug. 16 in the United States).
Responding on his message board to Carrey's comments, "Kick-Ass" co-creator Mark Millar confessed to being "baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn't in the screenplay eighteen months ago."
"Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called 'Kick-Ass 2' really has to do what it says on the tin," he continued. "A sequel to the picture that gave us HIT-GIRL was always going to have some blood on the floor and this should have been no shock to a guy who enjoyed the first movie so much. My books are very hardcore, but the movies are adapted for a more mainstream audience and if you loved the tone of the first picture you're going to eat this up with a big, giant spoon. Like Jim, I'm horrified by real-life violence (even though I'm Scottish), but 'Kick-Ass 2' isn't a documentary. No actors were harmed in the making of this production! This is fiction and like Tarantino and Peckinpah, Scorcese and Eastwood, John Boorman, Oliver Stone and Chan-Wook Park, 'Kick-Ass' avoids the usual bloodless body-count of most big summer pictures and focuses instead of the CONSEQUENCES of violence, whether it's the ramifications for friends and family or, as we saw in the first movie, Kick-Ass spending six months in hospital after his first street altercation. Ironically, Jim's character in 'Kick-Ass 2' is a Born-Again Christian and the big deal we made of the fact that he refuses to fire a gun is something he told us attracted him to the role in the first place."
Directed by Jeff Wadlow, "Kick-Ass 2" also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Grace Moretz.

Bit confused by Carrey's thoughts here too!

24-Jun-2013, 10:10 PM
I can sympathize with both sides of the argument. It is a fictional film and has no reflection of real life events. However, lots of people feel fictional violence leads to real life incidents, so that's their opinion and I can respect it. Plus Carrey is older now, so he may not be as adventurous as he once was. However, it is kind of silly to back out of promotion for this movie based on this single event. As horrible as the school shooting was, there have been thousands and thousands of equal horrific events just like it before.
If he really wants to give back to the community, he should donate what I'm sure was his very hefty salary to the victims of said tragedy.
Not to mention by doing this he actually promoted the film, which he said he didn't want to do....
ProfessorChaos
24-Jun-2013, 11:31 PM
yeah, nice timing on that little statement, mr. carrey, you pretentious f*ckstick.
like bass said, if you feel bad, take all your earnings from this and donate them to some anti-gun cause or something that benefits the victims....otherwise, STFU and go back to your pampered hollywood lifestyle.
what a toolbox.

I'm not sure if he necessarily got paid an awful lot of cash - Kick Ass 2's budget was apparently lower than the first, and the first was relatively cheap to make, so while it would no doubt be a very nice pay day, it's probably not his usual sort of pay day ... I'm assuming.
It is a bit weird ... as Millar said there, his character in the movie actually doesn't use guns because he doesn't agree with them. Each to their own, I suppose, but it's a bit of a jumble.

I saw on Blu-Ray.com it got a 3/10 - but the reviewer never liked the original, so why on earth were they reviewing it? Anyway, users gave it 7.5/10.
Total Film have given it a 3/5:
http://www.totalfilm.com/reviews/cinema/kick-ass-2-1
Back in 2010, Kick-Ass' potty-mouthed, kinetically violent and tabloid-baiting brand of super-heroism was a breath of irreverent fresh air. Adapting from Mark Millar/John Romita Jr’s have-a-go-heroes comic, Matthew Vaughn was able to carve out a new niche in an already over-crowded genre, delivering a capes-‘n’-tights romp that managed to screw with comic-book conventions as much as it celebrated them.
Yet while KA2 manages to tick all the OTT boxes (Naughty words! Decapitations! Gimp costumes!), it also suffers from an undeniably super-powered sophomore slump, and a tone every bit as imbalanced and crazily questionable as its protagonists.
Picking up weeks after the original’s jetpack-tastic, bazooka-blasting finale, it finds its characters facing a world where more and more civilians are fancying themselves as masked vigilantes. Dave/Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) divides his time between buffing up and hitting the streets with budget super-team Justice Forever (led by an imposing Jim Carrey’s Big Daddy-alike, Colonel Colonel Stars And Stripes).
Blaming Dave for his dad’s rocket-related demise, Chris (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) adopts a subtle new alias – The Motherfucker – and embarks on a road to super-villainous revenge with new team in tow (the equally subtle Toxic Mega Cunts). Meanwhile, Mindy (an unavoidably older, but just as electrifying Chloë Grace Moretz) is forced to give up her hardcase hi-jinks as Hit-Girl in favour of a Pinocchio-like quest to become a 'real girl'.
Relative newcomer Jeff Wadlow (2008’s Never Back Down) proves an adequate choice to take over the writer/director reins from Vaughn, bringing a similarly vibrant energy that sustains the pace despite three decidedly separate sub-plots.
While there's memorable spectacle and some fun set-pieces (a suburban attack led by Olga Kurkulina’s Brigitte-Nielsen-on-crack Mother Russia is a highlight), Wadlow's helped massively by a returning lead trio who can confidently juggle comedy, drama and down-and-dirty ass-kickery.
Shame, then, that KA2 is tripped up by its wonky tone. For cleverly observed satirical barb or gritty, real-world dilemma, there's an equivalent, jarring misstep into lazy cliche. Case in point: Mindy's fun, super-bitchy Mean Girls-esque mini-adventure promises subversive smarts, but culminates with all the comedic originality and intellectual depth of a Grown Ups fart gag.
And while the original revelled in exploring the pathetic, rib-cracking realities of street-level superhero-ing, its sequel too often drifts into the staples its predecessor mocked (training montages and dead-parent-inspired character growth both get a look in).
Still, if some of the shock value’s gone, this is witty, wild and wired enough to be far from a super-zero.
Verdict:
A fun if sporadically schizoid return to one of the brighter, brasher comic-bookers of recent years. Now, about that Hit Girl spin-off...

Super is far less polished, is from James Gunn, and has Rain Wilson in a red costume smashing people's heads in with a wrench ... and it's got the Juno girl in it.
Kick Ass is very slick and polished, is from Matthew Vaughn, has Hit Girl in it, as well as Nicolas Cage, and features lots of grown up shenanegans.
I'll see this on Blu-Ray methinks. I basically never go to the cinema now due to the expense and hassle - I've only been once this year (to see The World's End, and that was a film I really, really, really wanted to see) ... even though I really wanna see Kick Ass 2, I can easily wait for the home release before I see it. Better to put the inflated ticket price towards the DVD or Blu-Ray, you know?

Ok, so I saw Kick Ass 2 last night. I went away from it feeling overall very satisfied. Didn't feel as good as the first movie, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. It was an interesting experience to see what a world would look like with a whole movement of people dressing up in costumes and doing various good deeds in their communities.
***Spoiler Alert***
Having read the comic before seeing the movie, which was far darker than its film version by leaps and bounds, I totally get why they made McLovin into a more comical while at the same time sadistic villain (much akin to Dr. Evil). Honestly, he just doesn't have the look or persona to come off as sick and twisted as the comic version of MF was (I just could never picture him realistically having the nerve to just gun down a bunch of kids playing on the side of the street just because he thought it would be funny to do it).
Moving on, I don't really get what the hell Jim Karry's problem was with the character he played in the movie. Colonel Stars and Stripes was an awesome combination between a total badass and a real humanitarian. Karry really sold the role, making it the character into a larger than life kind of person who has no problem beating the living crap out of low life scum but carries around an empty pistol because he can no longer bring himself to take a human life like he did in his days prior to becoming a hero. It's not like his role was advocating gun violence in any way, so I tried to block out the things he had said recently and just enjoy the ride.
Other characters were really well casted for their roles, especially Mother Russia. That lady really came off to me as Dragonov's (from Rocky IV) 'little sister' in how she just kicked everyone's ass she came across without much of a word spoken.
Another thing that did it for me was the small things, which the movie made a good point to emphasize. One of the biggest examples for me was the moment when Night Bitch's eyes light up after she helps the Justice Forever group in rescuing a bunch of helpless women that had been essentially forced into prostitution. It was the moment that you see that she's done something more than just dressing up in a costume and playing pretend, she's actually done something to make a difference for others who were helpless to protect themselves.
The most memorable moment for me was towards the end when the doors to MF's layer open and all the 'heroes' enter to face of against the army he's been building to wreck the city. Maybe it was just me reading a bit more into that moment than I should, but it meant a lot to me. Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl had been fighting villains (and killing them) for years, but many of these people were just every day joes that simply put on costumes and walked around the city accomplishing not much of anything. And here they were called upon by the two main heroes to step up and face off against a force of hardened psychopaths and criminals. They had the choice of simply going home and throwing away their outfits and accepting the fact that the bad guys would essentially burn the city down and hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent people would die in the chaos. Instead, they each chose to enter a den of monsters and risk their lives, as Hit-Girl said, "This is not a game. Real people are going to die tonight.", to fight with everything they had to stop that from happening. Again, maybe it was just me reading more into a situation than I was supposed to, but that also shows the genius of the movie and how it was made so that it could create that kind of reaction from me.
Again overall, a solid sequel to a fantastic movie.
