This 1974 TV movie stars Peter Graves as the father/leader to a band of survivors, after a natural disaster kills off most of the population. For fans of this genre, it's actually a decent little drama with no bloated FXs or grand ideas to ruin a simple survival tale.

Found this gem by accident, but I remember it fondly. There's also a pretty cool thriller listed on the site called Killdozer which is based upon a story by noted Science Fiction writer Theodore Sturgeon and stars Clint Walker - give it a look see as well.

Another good movie in the same theme is Panic In Year Zero with Ray Miland from 1962. It is about a family that is camping in the mountains when a nuclear war happens.

wow. the 70's are my thing and i was under the impression that only my brother and I were aware of the existence of this movie. i have a decent copy of it and give it a spin from time to time.

on the subject of made for tv flicks "Dead of Night" from 1977 is a damn good film. the last segment of it is spooky as hell.

i have a few "holy grail" items from the 60s and 70s that i'd love to find copies of. "the new people", a tv show from 1969 is at the top of the list.

a brief synopsis:

The New People is a short-lived 1969 American television series on ABC that focused on a group of young college students who were returning from a trip in Southeast Asia when their plane crashed on an island in the south Pacific Ocean. The crash killed several of the college students, and all but one of the adults, who was badly injured and later died. The surviving students were the only human life remaining on the island. The island was unusual in that it had been built up as a site for a potential above-ground nuclear test which never took place, leaving all of the buildings and (improbably) supplies untouched and ready for use by the survivors.

kind of sounds familiar doesn't it?
