Recently I've been on a nostalgia buzz and listening to some of the beepy music that accompanied the Spectrum games that I used to play in my youth.

I understand that there are a number of Spectrum emulators available on the web. unfortunately, I'm unsure which ones are good and which are not, or how to even use them. So, if any of you lads have tried these or know someone that has, can you give me a few pointers on which ones are any use?

A good starting point is here: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/

Personally I use ZXSpin, it's pretty straight forward to use - just fire it up choose which mode you want to run it in (48k or 128k, feel the power!), and just open the game file from the main screen. It's all self explanatory, really simple unlike those bloody Amiga emulators, jeeeeez!

Speccy FTW! :D

Ok, cheers Rancid. I'll check out ZXSpin and see where it goes.

Looking forward to a bit of 'Jetpack' and 'Gunfright'. Loved those as a kid.

That worked. Was playing 'Green Beret' last night. Insanely hard. Haven't played it since the 80's.

Unfortunately, I can't get hold of 'Gunfright' or 'Jetpack'. :(

I feel your pain - I've been after Dizzy for years...

8-bit games are surprisingly hardcore (or I could just be getting old, lol), I've got loads that I could plow through no problem when I first bought them, but now they just kick my arse pretty badly - it's worse than Dark Souls!

Still, half the fun is going through the archives and and downloading all my old games, wasted hours and hours doing that, it's ace!

Hardcore is right.

Still struggling to get past level 1 of 'Green Beret' with more than 1 life. Jesus Christ...

Fired up 'Head Over Heals' and 'Trap Door' last night. Great stuff.
