OMG! Why?

This is just mondo-bizarro, but it seems that the crazy insane TV show from the 80s... MANIMAL... is being turned into a Live Action/CG mix by Sony Pictures Animation. Now MANIMAL was a series that just never took off. It was one of Glen Larson's projects and apparently Mr Larson is on-board as a producer.

But then again, if it's got a Melody Anderson look-a-like, I'm interested.

Oh, come on Hollywood! You're not even trying.

There can't be THAT much of a script drought.

Anyone watch Manimal during the 80's? I did. Not too many people remember it. I was kind of bummed out when Manimal was eaten by the shark in Jaws 3.

You have to give the man some credit though having been married to Fiona Fullerton and Susan George!!!

Is no aged-geekster juvenile minutia safe?

I can't believe they would float a project like this, the only reason Manimal is talked up the way it is, is because its status as half forgotten geek chic marginalia.

Person makes a Monty Python Joke? You make a Time Bandits reference. Person replies with an Alan Moore quote, you come back with a Manimal reference...that's the GenCon way.

Umph...it's just like a geek to bring an Alan Moore quote to a Manimal thread.

Bravo, Neil! I'd totally forgotten Automan existed, only the picture helped bring back the slightest of memories.

I wondered if Automan would be brought up in this thread. Both shows came out around the same time and only lasted a season. "Automan, that's me!"

Now, if you want to talk about an old early 80s TV property that I'd love to see something done with, either rebooting as a tv serries for a new generation of kids or launching as a children's film, I'd nominate Voyagers.

Loved that show as a kid.

I did. I collect shows from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I have a copy of all of the "Manimal eps." A movie could work but in this day and age, who knows?

i have a complete copy of this show as well. it has aged somewhat but there are still a couple of eps. i'll watch from time to time.

i have all manner of obscure 70s/80s stuff - even, and god help me, stuff like "Quark" and "Fantastic Journey."

I do recall the lead actor (Jon-Erik Hexum) died a couple of years after this series after accidentally shooting himself with a blank. Coincidentally, the young kid in Voyagers (Meeno Peluce) also appeared in an episode of Manimal :)

F*CK YES! Good call, Aces! I used to watch that show ALL the time when it was on. An update could be very interesting!

Y'know if they're going to do a "Manimal" movie, they're going to need a soundtrack...
