...is it any use?

Looking for an eventual replacement of 'Skyrim'.

Although I've yet to finish it, Dark Souls was easily one of the best game I played last year. It just oozes atmosphere. The world design and traversal system flowing seamlessly together is one of the best parts, it really makes you want to see everything.

Combat is tough, but fair. I'd suggest choosing the Pyromancer if you plan on picking it up. There was also a pretty substantial DLC pack released last month, which added new areas, weapons, armor, etc.

The learning curve is very, very steep, so prepare to die. A lot.

if you are a casual gamer dont touch it, its fantastically hard and caters more to the classic castlevania crowd were you should expect to die constantly and be always at a disadvantage unless you take things reaaaal slow and methodical and work at it. The antithesis of pick up and play. Though personally i enjoyed demons souls a lot more.

Is it played in the 1st person or the 3rd, or can you switch between the two?

It looks like it's up my street.

...and hardcore, good stuff. I'm getting sick of dumbed down console games.

Third person view only. If you're playing on PC I'd suggest investing in a wired 360 controller.

Ah fuck it. I've just noticed that it has 'Games for Windows Live' on the box.

No thanks.

Go for it shootem! It's easily one of the best games this generation if you're into old school gaming.
As an RPG it conjures up a classic D&D 'feel' more than the Elder Scrolls games IMO.
But boy, no one is exaggerating when they call it hard. Fair, yes, but bloody hard!

I might check it out on the xbox Kris, but I'm just not interested in the GFWL bloatware on my PC.

I'm normally a PC gamer, cos you can generally mod the crap of most things and an RPG usually has a ton of mods available for it a few days weeks after release.
