Star Wars fans around the world are coming together on the internet to construct a real-life version of the film's Millennium Falcon spacecraft.

Conceived by a US fan in Nashville, Tennessee, the Full Scale Millennium Falcon Project aims to use the internet to crowd-source efforts to build the famous ship, which will be adorned with all the trimmings aside from a working engine.

With the help of an intricately designed 3D model created by college student Stinson Lenz, a project contributor in Alabama has already erected the console of the craft as well as one of its two laser guns.

Project founder Chris Lee has purchased an 88-acre (35-hectare) plot of land in Tennessee on which the ship will sit.

He intends to use the "fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy" as a place to hold workshops for students who wish to learn to weld, paint or build.

That should read: "Star Wars fans have entirely too much time on their hands as the come together from around the world to construct a real-life version of the film's Millennium Falcon spacecraft."

I mean, it'll be neat to look at when it's done, but...

To each his own, I guess. :D

If a theme park park or something were doing this it would seem a lot cooler. A bunch of guys dong it in their garage? Feels a little weird.

I'm only a few hours from Nashville and i'm soooooo going to see this thing. Haters gonna hate, but they know in the heart that they want to walk inside the falcon...

Let's look at it this way: Soccer fanatics beat the crap out of each other and torch cars ( and that's when their team wins ) - star wars fans build a full sized space ship. Now: which ones are wierder.

I agree, and, further more, I hope they have great luck and do a kickass job :D

Now: which ones are wierder.

I'm afraid I can't answer that, as both are on a level of weirdness I feel is pretty much equivalent. :D

As soon as this thing is built, and people start flocking to see it, you watch Disney slam a cease and desist order on it! By then they'll have their Star Wars hotel at Disney Land!

Tennessee is a bad place for this project. With all the humidity in the air they will have constant rust problems. Better to place this in the desert or other arid region.

Ah, you mean Tatooine right? At least they'd be able to pick up their power convertors from Toshi Station without too much trouble - I suppose it would be a bit of a hike from Tennessee, even at .4 past light speed... :D

Just think of it as adding to the ambiance.

But the Falcon is a smuggler ship, it's meant to travel into and out of wretched hives of scum and villainy!

Sorry Tennessee!
