Not seen no.2 yet, but seems Jackie Chan will be in no.3...

http://www.cinema.com.my/news/news.aspx?search=2012.n_expendablestoinclude_12309

Jackie Chan has confirmed his involvement with Sylvester Stallone's "Expendables 3" as the script is currently in works to include the international action star recently at a press conference for "CZ12" in Kuala Lumpur.

"Sly had invited me to be in "Expendables 2" but I was too busy filming "CZ12" and couldn't make a commitment to the film. But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes," said Chan.

Chan added that he had revealed to Stallone that he hoped the third installment of the franchise would run along the lines of a 'buddy-buddy' movie should Chan be starring in it, which the "Rambo" star obliged. Currently, the script is in the midst of being worked on to meet the criteria.

Sounds good. I just watched the second film yesterday and enjoyed it more than the first. The First Blood/Die Hard/Terminator references for each of their respective actors should have been cut down, but other than that it was a great throwback to 80's action.

What does Chan mean by a "buddy buddy" movie? :rockbrow:

Anyway - I'm properly glad that a third is in the works. I had an absolute blast with the second which, while certainly not perfect, was just such a bloody good fun time. The whole opening action sequence had me grinning from ear-to-ear in the cinema (that was my favourite part of the movie, come to think of it).

Here's what I made of the movie back in August:

Chuck stole the show in 2, is he in 3?
And I hope Chan isn't going to get alot of the focus in the next one. I can't stand him.

Loved the second one. Way more than the first, which was OK but tried to be a serious action film.

Looking forward to this.

I want to see Mel Gibson, Stephen Seagal, Jackie Chan. I can do without Nicky Cage. What's he done, anyway?

Sounds like an appropriately bonkers list of cast members - looking forward to it!

What about Jet Li, I wonder? He was all over the first, then he sky-dived out of the second in the first ten minutes never to be seen again. Could Chan be a replacement for Li?

I enjoyed both films, but the second definitely had the amount of action that I was expecting from the first, which was a bit light in the middle portion (but certainly made up for it with an utterly explosive third act) ... the second was just all-out mayhem, and was thoroughly brilliant fun (my favourite part was the opening of the movie). Proper, old school, no-holds-barred, total action chaos featuring double-hard bastards grimacing and dropping sarcastic one-liners - YES.:thumbsup::D

I wonder what that's all about then - probably too much money for too little work.

Plus Willis is being such a bloody grump these days. If you don't want to do press, don't bloody do it, if you're contractually obliged to do it, hold up your end of the bargain without being a spoiled little shit about it (while making yourself look like an utter fool). He's certainly getting paid enough!

Seems you are right MZ.

Stallone tweeted - "GREEDY AND LAZY ...... A SURE FORMULA FOR CAREER FAILURE"

Wow!

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Bruce-Willis-Left-Expendables-3-Because-They-Wouldn-t-Pay-Him-Million-Dollars-Day-38903.html

Willis was offered $3 million for four days of work on the set of the anticipated sequel, but said that he wouldn't return for less than $4 million (a.k.a. $1 million for each day). Stallone and "everybody else involved" rejected this counter-proposal, and Willis walked away from the table. Within three days of that negotiation Stallone reached out to Ford and got him to sign on. Said the insider, "I think [Willis] was pretty surprised he was replaced in 72 hours by Harrison Ford — a better actor, a much nicer person and a more interesting direction for the film."

and more of him being a dufus here... If ONLY he'd just stopped talking to the rude dufus and only asked Mary Louise Parker questions, that would have been perfect!

I was just about to post about the 'million a day' grab of Willis' - I think $3m for four days is more than enough, don't you?!

I'd like to think that if I was the interviewer in that clip I'd have said to Willis that if he doesn't like doing press tours, then he shouldn't do them, and if he said "but I'm contractually obliged to do them", then I'd say "well act like a professional and quit bitching, it's not like you weren't paid a shitload of cash to be in this movie!" ... and yeah, just talked to MLP instead.

Other actors get tired of the press tour - but they do it professionally - or, at the same time, have a little fun with it. There's tales of actors challenging each other to drop certain phrases or whatever into their answers. I remember one case was a dare to drop a song title into every single answer. Other press tours seem much more fun - mates on a tour enjoying each other's company - e.g. whenever Wright/Pegg/Frost go on the promo tours for their movies - and the tours are usually quite long, too, with many, many countries on their agenda.

So in short, Willis is acting like a spoiled, over-paid, self-obsessed wanker. It's a real shame because he's been in some absolute classics, and he can still pull out cracking performances (e.g. Sin City, Looper).

It's a shame. I like Bruce Willis on screen. But if Harrison Ford can accept an offer that Bruce Willis can't, then Bruce needs to double-check his stardom. Harrison Ford is one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood (http://www.esquire.com/the-side/feature/box-office-power-052308). Bruce Willis ain't.

Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables -- but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

Recounting the drama in an interview with US talk show host Jay Leno, Terry Crews, 45, said: ‘I had a near-death experience.

‘We were doing a stunt and Jason Statham was driving the truck and we were supposed to be on the back of this truck and for some reason we were talking, sipping smoothies and he gets in the truck… on the edge of the Black Sea. He, literally, was supposed to stop the truck. Well, the truck doesn’t stop. The truck rolls over the dock, into the Black Sea with Jason Statham driving!’

So it seems #3 didn't do so well at the weekend box office in the states - $16.2m - compared to nearly $35m for the first flick and nearly $29m for the second movie.

I saw the first two movies in the cinema, but I absolutely refuse to pay to watch a watered down - 12A rated - Expendables movie in the cinema. I'll wait for the inevitable 'harder cut' on home video. The decision to 'go for a wider audience' with a PG-13 seems rather daft - do 13 year olds care about Stallone & Co? Have they seen any - or all that many - of any of the movies the main cast have starred in? The people most interested are going to be grown adults, so not only are you compromising your product (and the style of films from which it was birthed), but you're also sticking two fingers up to the section of the potential audience who are actually willing to hand over their cash.

It also seems like an even more stupid decision - and a greedy one to boot - considering that the R-Rated Expendables 2 earned more than $300m worldwide in cinemas ($220m was from the International market). So there's no need at all to neuter it for a PG-13.

So it didn't do well on the US opening weekend, but will it see a big drop off next week, or will it stretch out it's taking more evenly over several weeks rather than a single weekend followed by a massive drop-off? Also, I wonder what the International BO take will be. I really dig the first two movies, but I kind of hope the PG-13 rating for #3 damages the BO draw and sends Stallone & Co a clear message.

Hopefully it'll have some balls reattached for home video, but even still it'll probably be some CGI blood and a couple of ADR swears like the soft, but otherwise pretty good, Die Hard 4 'harder cut'.

Yes, that too! I wonder how that leak happened. Clearly must have been someone on the inside with access, or someone charged with delivering a disc somewhere took the time to rip it before delivering it.

No doubt with lots of CGI blood pasted in.

Better than nothing, but hopefully it'll be better than just that - hopefully they had extra/alternate footage that was cut out for the silly PG-13 theatrical release. I saw both of the other two flicks in the franchise at the cinema, but deliberately avoided seeing this one in the cinema (in the UK it's rated friggin' 12A ffs!!!) as I knew there'd be an "unrated" version on DVD/BR ... so that is what I've been waiting for.

I think it was a big mistake to try and appeal to 13 year olds. Their target audience is, frankly, going to be older and already fans of their back catalogue. Jason Statham is the youngest of the main cast, at least I think he is, and he's got an established film career of his own in action - but, for instance, The Transporter came out in 2002 ... so a PG-13'er kid would have been friggin' one when that came out. Is there really going to be an army of teens who are clued-up on all the classic action flicks of these action cinema legends? Perhaps some, but I don't think they're going to be particularly clued-up ... the cool ones with good taste in movies will, but was it worth compromising the hard edged attitude of the franchise? I don't think so.

Sure, the leak online would have played a huge role in buggering up its box office, but I think there'd be a considerable enough chunk of the audience who - like me - just said "I'm waiting for the DVD/BR when it'll be uncut".

So I hope they've got some decent bits of extra footage (e.g. presuming they cut away early during certain encounters/kills/etc in the theatrical release). I really dig The Expendables flicks, but softening it for PG-13 is just the wrong move. They don't make massive amounts, but they make very tidy sums worldwide in cinemas and ancilliary markets - be happy with that and keep that audience happy by maintaining the toughness, yeah?

/rant :D
