The bad thing is I've only seen one of those flicks (Cabin In The Woods), with many of the others on my "to be watched list". The good thing is now, I can skip all the ones on your "my bottom 5" list :)

Definitely interested in seeing "The Bay" and "VHS"!

'V/H/S' isn't too bad, but I wouldn't put it in the top ten of anything.

'Cabin in the Woods' is a load of old bollocks, TBH.

The best "horror" film I've seen in 2012, was 'Take Shelter', although it's not a horror film. I felt the genre was noticeably lacking last year.

Probably the worst I've seen was 'Smiley'.

I'll be watching 'The Bay' today, will let you know if it's yay, or nay!

Horray!

I think it's telling that as long as I've loved the genre, I haven't watched a new horror movie for many years now. The last one I saw on the tube was The Descent (and it's genius was largely the all female cast )

Themes like Torture Porn I could never get into. Either they're simply there for FX freaks or some darker folk. The video tape or home movie type films have long stopped being clever since Blair Witch. And yet another take on The Ring? I did watch a few of the original Asian horror films after that came out. Maybe I might just be going through a down phase here, and I suspect I might be missing some gems in the meantime.

I've seen "Cabin" & "Sinister", both of which I enjoyed. Want to see V/H/S & The Bay. The rest? Meh. TBH 2012 wasn't really a banner year for horror IMO. The very fact I'm searching my memory & coming up short of ANY other horror flicks I saw this year says something, as I've watched a lot, but nothing sticks out... :(

"The Collection" was pretty good. Waiting for uncut DVD before I decide for sure if it's as good as the first or not. "Lovely Molly" was one that I appreciate quite a bit. Still thinking...coming up empty....:(

Lovely Molly was pretty great, yeah. I enjoyed the Pact as well, kind of similar to. . but not as good as Molly. Cabin in da Woodz was awesome. V/H/S disappointed me actually. The Bay was above average. Paranormal 4 was meh. . .same shit. Oh and Take Shelter WAS a great movie. . .I can see putting it in the horror category, sure. It was tense enough, and definitely full of dread.

So, yeh...'The Bay' is a definite yay.

Decent attempt in a pretty tired sub-genre (found footage blah blah) and featuring some genuinely creepy chills. It's probably one of the better "found footage" films and it doesn't suffer from "acting", like a lot of those films do.

Personally, I'd have lingered on the gory details longer than the makers do, since that's its main selling point.

It's not a film I would have liked to have seen on the big screen as a lot of it is Skype conferencing and Shite-Cam™, so DVD is it's best medium in my opinion.
