I am a major fan of this movie and a while back I came up with n idea for a vdeo game that would either be

A. A video game version of the film
B. A direct sequel to the film.

Would you guys play this game?

What kind of game are we talking about here? Flash game? Android/iThingy app? Full PC game?

A Flash game or a very simple mobile app would the most reasonable goal to aim for, but you risk it getting lost in the blizzard of similarly-titled ZOMBIE KILLING(!!!!!!11!!1!!1!!oneone!!!!) games inundating the app-markets these days. A full PC-style game, even a budget-type "£2.99 on Steam" game, would be a lot (lot lot lot LOT LOT) more difficult to see through to completion without getting a real development team on board, and that would involve convincing them that your zombie game is able to stand out from the huge horde of zombie game ideas.

But the biggest problem of all is with the Dawn of the Dead title. Forget about using that. Richard Rubenstein, who owns the rights, is notoriously litigious. Those he has sued or threatened over the title include Anthony Giangregorio - the dude who wrote the small-time, unofficial, self-published Dawn sequel called Dead Reckoning: Dawning of the Dead - and the makers of the Dead Rising PC game. Importantly, Dead Rising didn't even use the Dawn title and features a prominent disclaimer on the front of the box proclaiming that it has nothing to do with the movie, but Rubenstein still went after his pound of flesh. So it can't be called Dawn of the Dead, or anything too similar, and it can't feature the same characters or scenarios.

BUT, if you can get past these issues, YES I would definitely play such a game. :)

Likw a ps3/xbox 360 game and it would closely follow the film. And that sucks

How about, Emporium of the Non-Living: A Whirlybird Adventure with Law Enforcement Tactical Unit Dudes and their Media Buddies!

Could work... :D

 I'd be all over that!

The best bet is getting a good modable engine/platform, get a team together and do a class job on a non-profit mod release.

I still think a step time tactical shooter is needed. ie: Think XCom!

Since rubinstein owns the rights it seems one would have to go through him

John,

Absolutely YES i'd play it, something developed by the fans for the fans is a rare and often denied idea these days.

It's a shame that you'd have to go through so much red tape to get even the idea off the ground.
Here's hoping.

Presumably an adaptation of "Night of The Living Dead" wouldn't have the same copyright problems?

There was a decent Dawn of the Dead mall map for the Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green PC game back in 2005. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g228vQwq7S8

I think a video game adaption of night of the living dead would work great there us so much stuff we didn't see with that movie that could make some good playable levels in a video game
