My first ever zombie makeup

Now keep in mind, my ten year old son knows nothing about my infatuation with zombies. He doesn't even know about this web site. So you can understand my pride, when at his school they were allowed to go in as a character from a book, he decides to go in as a zombie from "The Enemy" :)


Anyway, this morning I spent about 30 mins doing his makeup, and I must say it turned out quite well. I didn't want to go mad as it was my first experience, we didn't have much time, and at the end of the day he was going to school so didn't want anything over the top!

Layers of latex in two spots, which I then burst/peeled up.
I then pushed some rice crispies under some of the latex.
Reapplied some more latex.
Painted the wounds with fake blood, and some white and black face paint to highlight.

I forgot to take photos, but if it's still intact later I will...


I should have sponged some darker patches under his eyes, but again, he was spending the day at school...

So he had two wounds, one about one 2cm and the other about 5cm on his forehead and cheek. Enough to get the message across!

Sounds cool. Reminds me of a time - albeit in the Sixth Form - when we did a fancy dress day for charity, and I dressed up in heavy boots, a hockey mask, fake meat cleaver, and blood-splattered jeans & apron ... I was walking in a touch late and passed a mother escorting her sick kid from the school ... I got such a weird look from her and one of those nervous chuckles. :lol:

We had an 80's fancy dress once. A mate dressed up as Vyvyan from the Young Ones? He had to park down the road a bit, so as he was walking along the path in his denim jeans and jacket, spiked hair and silver studs on his forehead, the old lady approaching him sharply crossed the road :)

Personally I think my Don Johnson outfit was more scary!

Nope... He's not old enough for the films etc...

Going to be weird to sit with him on a couple of years seeing what he makes of these zombie films made so long ago... Could well be he thinks they're old and tacky! - At which point I put him up for adoption!

I suppose there must come a time in every childs life when they must sit down with their parents and learn about the facts of life - but for goodness sake, don't get that little chat confused with the one about the birds and the bees!

Without any input from me, he seems to be into zombies - Clearly in the genes :)

In a couple of years I'll introduce him to Night of the Living Dead, and soon after that he'll be OK to watch the rest of them I suspect...

That's good, I just wondered why, like if maybe you didn't think the gore and violence were appropriate for him or not...

That's the main reason... Couple of years I think it will be more appropriate :)

I'll be interested to know what your son makes of the Holy Trilogy - and then no doubt The Walking Dead as well - when he's finally let loose upon them anyway.

I've been watching gore since i was 5 or 6, and i turned out all messed up.:cool:
But my brother was watching movies like Nightmare On Elm Street, friday The 13th, Childs play when he was still in diapers. He's 10 years younger than me, and he's like a choir boy now.

When I first saw night and Dawn I thought they were boring. I was maybe 11 or 12. Wasn't until I was old enough to understand the deeper themes in them that I liked them. They aren't really teen slasher style films.
ROTLD was what made me love zombie flicks.

I've seen some articles on the web about really young kids writing Norman Reedus letters because they're die hard fans of TWD.

Anyone remember those "Jerrold Converter boxes" from the 80's? Someone showed me how to hack them when I was real young. Which is the only reason I was able to watch stuff like ROTLD. That, and learning how to connect 2 VCR's.
Doing illegal things with electronics shaped my whole life...
