Best-selling US author Tom Clancy has died at the age of 66, his publisher Penguin has confirmed.

Clancy wrote a string of best-selling spy and military thrillers. His 17th novel, Command Authority, is due out in December.

I'm sad to say I've not read a book of his yet...

Some of them were damned compelling reads when I was younger, but they were also rife with jingoist crap, as well. He's sort of the archetypal, 'well-if-I-had-my-druthers' fantasist who writes his own idealized self into his work as the main character.
