Now I have to say I wasn't too excited about this at first, I'm expecting a lot of Hollywood clichés rather than the realistic excellence of Band of Brothers, but then I read who is starring in the film! No, not Brad Pitt, or even Jon Bernthal of Walking Dead fame, but the only working Tiger Tank in the world, which to military enthusiasts and historians will be undoubtedly the real star on screen!

Here's me with it a few years ago at Bovington tank museum

There is still glaring inaccuracies as this particular Tiger tank is early war production, therefore there are noticeable differences between the design of this tank and the ones that were running around at the time this film is supposed to be set (late war 1945), but even so it will be great to see a real one on film when there have been so many obvious imposters used in past films

I don't know anything about tanks, but I'm looking forward to this because it's a David Ayer flick. It'll be interesting to see his first film not involving police or crime.

Dude, out of the way--a Tiger is meant to strut...and breakdown, but that's a whole other story.

Movie definitely sounds interesting!

ya lucky shite Tricky... :(

I've been meaning to get over to Bovington and see that for years.

It's good to see that they've painted her in her original 1942 desert scheme...ahem...RAL8000 Gelbraun with RAL7008 Graugrun sprayed over...

Did you get to see it running? They fully restored the Maybach engine too.

Just read a plot summary of the film...sounds bad.

Set during the last months of World War II in April 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theater, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and his five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

It certainly does.

No surprises there so. Given the time-frame, that scenario just sounds bloody stupid.

Yeah they ran it around the arena a few times while I was there and it took part in a mock battle at one point, great to see it running! I had a climb up on the back of it while it was parked up too.

I need to get over to WTD 41 in Germany at some point to see this beast running as well

Indeed - hadn't the allies stopped at the Rhine by that point....

By that stage of the war the Western allies weren't too bothered about taking any more chances. The Gerries were done for and in any case, most of their forces had been marshaled to the East again, to face the Russians.

They would have been happy if the Allied forces in the West had pushed for Berlin instead.

I really have to get over and see that Tiger though.

Here's a model I did a few years ago. It's the same type as the one you saw in Bovington, but from Kursk.

1295

This is the real thing, after she was in battle for a few days (she has an anti-tank shell hit and some flame damage on the turret)...

1296

She was shipped off for repairs shortly after that photo was taken in July 1943.

Nice model Shootem! I don't have the time/patience myself but my dad is and always has been big into modelling, here's his 1/6 scale radio controlled Tiger 1, complete with real engine sounds and smoke billowing from the exhausts, fully working suspension, gun recoil with sound effects and pyro effect

Beautiful models, guys! The finishing on them looks superb.

I don't think I could ever do that level of detail work.

Very nice.

Unfortunately, I only live in a small house, so 1/72 is about as big as it gets for me. I'd have to build a second house for anything 1/6th.

Cheers Aces.

Looking at my photo though, I can see a lot of flaws. :(
