I sort of enjoyed the first one but found it too contrived for my liking... so hoping the sequel improves in this department.

Why did you find The Raid "contrived"?

Looking forward to this - it'll be nice to see it spread out into the rest of the city.

So this is a sequel to some Indonesian chop socky crime flick? I assumed it was a sequel to the world war 2 movie of a similar name. Don't think I ever saw either of the original films...at least not all the way through.

Can't recall... I found it generally vapid and too much simply an action flick production... I suspect there were scenes where all the badies happened to no longer have guns too when our hero no longer had one, so we could have 5 vs 1 chopsui! :)

I'm hoping the bigger scope/budget gives them more to work with thus resulting in a stronger story...

Still need to see the first one, amazingly enough, but this looks promising.

Half way through the first one, I was done.

Chop Socky bores the bejesus out of me.

I don't really watch chop-socky films, or at all even, but I really enjoyed "The Raid". I went in wanting inventive fights and explosive action, and I got exactly that. Very enjoyable. :)

Fair enough, the plot/story could be better, but aren't most of the people in the movie not really actors? They're exceptional martial artists and stunt performers, but not actors (although it never felt 'off' either) ... and yeah, some of the characters beyond the main set aren't that defined, but that never really bothered me.

Have you seen the French flick District 13? It's just as outlandish and daft as "The Raid", but seems to have far more soul and interest to it... This is what I hope "The Raid 2" improves on.

Yes, I have seen District 13 (and enjoyed it a lot ... although the sequel was a bit pish by comparison).

Aye, it would be nice to have The Raid 2 warm up a bit on the character front, make the film a little bit more accessible on an emotional/character front ... I imagine it'll certainly deliver on the action front. Even still, I had a lot of fun with the first film and I've been meaning to give it a second go-round.

THE RAID 2: BERANDAL is one of the greatest action movies I've ever seen - bursting with great characters, story, and incredible sequences that put directors like Michael Bay to shame. If I see a better action film this year... but I won't. I know it, and once you see THE RAID 2: BERANDAL, you'll know it too.
