Just got back from seeing The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, and holy crap, can this series get any better?

Honestly, what was happening with our girl on fire in the first twenty minutes; with Peeta captured and her home(district twelve)leveled, Jennifer Lawrence must have wrung every bit of emotion out of herself in her commitment to this role. It was that upsetting, with President Snow(Donald Sutherland) on one side and the rebels President Coin(Julianne Moore) of District Thirteen on the other. working overtime to model Katniss into their ideal of defeat or victory. Anything more would be spoiler filled, but suffice it to say the uprising isn't neat & tidy, the losses are visible and often painful to watch; though not graphic.
And for those wondering about the decision to split the last book of the trilogy? It was the right one, as this film ended precisely at the correct moment which shows us the terrible cost of war.
I admit it, I'm very impressed with the way these films are turning out.

^^ So they aren't milking the last book by splitting it into two films?

I just think it's so they could wring more content out of the book.

I've read all the books and enjoyed the movies so far. I went into this one feeling like they were taking the book with the least content and dragging it out for 2 movies as a cash grab.

I saw the movie and I have completely reversed my opinion. I think the movie was very well executed and I never felt like there was filler or dragging out of events. There was a lot of character development, but it was all good. The new content (added plot points not in the book) was excellent and made the story more plausible. How often can I say that about a movie adaptation? They are well on their way to taking (what I feel is) the weakest entry in the book series and making it the strongest pair of movies.

I am very glad to see them taking a great book series and making doing it right for an enduring, re-watchable movie series.
