oh my..........

The only thing I have to say about this,........this.........thing, is; It should have been named Cliche Kong.
Why make it such a "Love story"? (and by this I mean it was a 3hr+ advertisement for the justification of Beastialty.) Boy, Ann really liked that monkey, didn't she? (Spank it girl! Spank that monkey!)
And, what was up with that EXTRA LONG outrageously overdone, Brontosaurus stampede?......it made me more nervous than excited and thrilled.
and.....that whole juggle and dance gig that Ann had to pull in order to tame the ole boy.....let's have a hand for that old Kong and Dance!
King Kong is into wowing and wooing the chicks while on a deliciously romantic romp about town; ending the date with an innocent, playful spin - bonding on the ice? WTF was THAT all about??? Kong on Ice!!! I'll take two tickets to THAT, please!!!

Needless to say, I hated it.
I gave it a fair watch but was cracking up at the ridiculousness of it at the 23 minute mark.
I would have liked it more if ole Petey didn't hang on to every scene until you can see the celluloid rotting.

peace

I agree on the Brontosaurus thing. Otherwise I liked it. I thought that Giant worm thing eating the guys head was kinda cool. Something about giant insects gives me the creeps.

That Spider Pit scene was killer. Some of it was overlong to be sure, but I still loved it.
Cliches? It's a fairly faithful remake of a movie from 1933. The Archetype of Monster Movies.

Ol' Pete does beat a scene to death, but I had a great time at that film.
LOved the opening shots, with the depression era NYC, with the shantys in Central Park.

Yeah, same here. Too long. Too much tripe involving monkey love. Too much CGI. Overblown crap. As goofy as it was, the '76 remake was better than this offal. Perhaps if Jackson had trimmed the film to 2 hrs and got rid of that silly love story, things would've have been different. Perhaps.

It was my son's favorite movie for a few weeks so I saw it about a dozen times.

1st I saw it in the movies and really didnt like it.

But by the time I saw it a couple times I really started to like it.

Now I strongly recommend it. I think it was a good movie.

Why would anyone - who wants to be taken seriously - use a word such as "offal" (or "overblown crap") to describe a film which at the least is well produced and a perfectly enjoyable "romp" etc?

If there's one thing I can't understand, it's binary opinions...

I liked quite a bit about the film, though to be sure, some of the scenes were overdone, and, even worse, overly long.

That said, the period work for the setting was fun to see, and it was good that more attention was paid to Ape/woman bonding, as it really helped the audience buy-in when it came to the tragedy of Kong's death. The action was good, but that went on too long at times, as well.

Andrenochrome, you make some good points, but I can't agree with them all, nor can I agree with the extent to which such things irk me as a viewer. Though the following quote perfectly encapsulates what I feel to be P. Jackson's biggest weakness as a director:

I would have liked it more if ole Petey didn't hang on to every scene until you can see the celluloid rotting.

I can, in no way, shape or form, disagree with you there. Sometimes, less is more, and Jackson needs to realize that.

You may have found it "perfectly" enjoyable, I however did not. The movie was torture to sit through and, IMO, was overblown crap. A complete waste of 3 hours which felt more like 6. A large percentage of this film could've been trimmed down as it was nothing more than Jackson's "Oh lookie what we can do here with CGI. Isn't it cool folks? Am I not God?" You liked it, I didn't and don't feel required to because of the hype.

You honestly think this film is worthy of "offal" and "overblown crap"? So given your comments that's surely a score of 1/10? Am I right?

It just seems when I read comments like this, scores from the individual would seem to be 1/10 or 10/10 with no space inbetween... It rocks.. It utter s**t!

ps: Your comments also have a ring of "success-envy". You seem to see this from time to time where someone/something is successful, and for some unknown reason this seemingly affects peoples ability to be rational and fair regarding it. For example, suddenly a film that an individual didn't enjoy, and didn't totally buy into, rather than being dismissed by them as just that, is instead deemed as the son of satan and responsible for all world pain and suffering. It's a very odd syndrome... Sort of like, the bigger it is the more I have to knock it... :)

Correct-a-mundo.

Not from what I've read in this thread and on other message boards regarding this film. The comments I've seen have covered a wide range of reactions to KK. Of course you're going to get "it rocks" or "it's utter dung" from people. Every film generates that response, no matter how successful it is at the box office. I guess it depends more on what source you use for viewing comments about a particular movie.

I don't know if I'm envious of Pete Jackson or not but I will say this: I wish I could make a bloated mess of a remake and reap millions from it while torturing buttocks in theaters everywhere.

I'm still mopping up the puddle of sap that leaked from my television screen.:D

I tried to watch it again,....but,.... didn't get it from the case to the DVD player until I couldn't stomach any more.
