Noticed our local cinema is almost booked out on valentines day!

B&Q have also issued a warning to its staff to expect increase "interest" in rope and duct tape!

Needless to say I'm looking forwards to MZ's review :)

New York Daily News gives it 3/5 - http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/movies/fifty-shades-grey-movie-review-article-1.2109147

You may be waiting a while...I'm sure he'll be all tied up for a while after. Don't worry though, he's bound to get around to it eventually. :clown:

All joking aside, commercial looks like the worst sort of wish fulfillment fantasy, a la "Twilight" in a way. :| :bored:

1) So you and the good lady are off to see it then, eh? Strap in, Neil!

2) haha, yeah I read that too, I imagine there'll be plenty of furtive glances across the checkout.

3):lol::lol: ... ... maybe when it swings around to Sky Movies I'll give it a glance ... just out of curiosity and educational purposes, of course. ;)

1) My safe word is "Oklahoma".:lol::lol:

2) Apparently the book did actually start out, in its initial version, as Twilight fan fiction! :stunned:

...

I've already seen some "this is filth!" type knicker-twisting going on in some corners of the commentariat - naturally from people who've not read the book or seen the film!

I read it in last month's issue of Total Film in which there was an article about the movie. I was as stunned as you.

Apparently it's pretty tame, and apparently the London Fire Brigade are "preparing" to get calls asking for them to rescue people whose amorous activities have gone awry after watching the film.

IGN reviewed it at 5/10.

Who knew people could get hurt getting tied up & whipped & paddled & such...?

Actually I forgot what their number is ... it starts with 99 but I can't remember what comes next. :p

Mark Kermode's review:

TOT6pe30Qas

Apparently it's not as terrible as it could have been, but it's far from as good as it could have been as well. Apparently the BDSM stuff is rather tame and barely in it, and that E.L. James insisted on her duff dialogue remaining in the film after a script doctor was brought in to make the chatty stuff not so awful, so if you see it and cringe at the wordy bits, that's why it seems.

I've not read 50 Shades of Grey, and never will - I'm just not interested in the slightest bit in reading it - but I've heard time and time again that the dialogue is bad (and the snippets of dialogue I have seen do match that assessment ... stuff like a 'Christian Grey flavoured popsicle' in her mouth and such ... oh dear as Neil is known to say).

Sounds like they could have gone much further with the kinky stuff ... it'll be interesting to see what die hard fans of the book(s) make of the movie.

Same here, never read, never will, not interested, can't say I'm surprised on the quality of the writing. My ex used to favor trashy romance occasionally, & well, yeah...

Only reason for the success of this is the kink factor dressed up with a hint of class & respectability (anyone remember "9 1/2 Weeks"...?). The general public eats up that chance to taste a little of the wild side & not feel too sleazy about it.

Buncha squares. Be kinky all the time, then you don't have to worry about it.:lol:

I was cured of that brand of kinky when a lady friend once suggested I read Anne Rice's erotic Sleeping Beauty series: since I liked her vampire chronicles so much.
It's very well written, and the S&M makes Fifty Shades(though I've never read the book, I have heard)pale by comparison. :)
