Thanks to China, a sixth “Terminator” movie is looking increasingly likely.
“Terminator Genisys” has proven a blockbuster in the People’s Republic since it opened there two weeks ago and the fifth Terminator is in serious danger of tripling its $155 million production budget with a worldwide gross standing at about $420 million and counting.
In China “Genisys” grossed more than $92 million in 11 days, already exceeding the $89 million it managed to squeeze out of the U.S. and Canada.
The poor domestic showing had a lot of pundits (including me) writing off the planned trilogy “Genisys” was supposed to kick off. (To say nothing of the proposed TV-series spin-off.)
As Forbes points out, “Genisys” has now outgrossed the similarly budgeted “Mad Max: Fury Road” because the Chinese government hasn’t permitted “Fury” to play there, at least not yet.
