OK, watched this, and for the most part I actually quite enjoyed its madness :)

Not sure the kids will ever forgive me for making them watch it though...

The family and I really enjoyed it, as well. I genuinely busted out laughing at quite a few moments, which I didn't really expect. This feels like a very close relative to Burton's original film.

The balloon sequence was great, if only for the utter look of confusion on my kids faces :)

Having just watched the original "Big Adventure", I have to say, I think this sequel is actually a far better film!
