Just saw it last night. Without a doubt it was the funniest movie I've seen in a long time. Just the LOTR vs. Star Wars debate was well worth the admission. Add the porchmonkey debate to that, and you have gold my friends.

Saw it 2 weeks ago. Hated it.

I saw it tonight. Good stuff! Everyone had a ton of laughs and the character's, for the most part, seemed to come to a sense of closure, which is probably for the best. Kevin Smith needs to move on and do some other stuff (I'm hoping he can), but it was great fun to go see this.

I saw it last night, best film of the year for me. So many cool little things he did for fan service, not to mention it was his funniest movie yet.

Amazing how some people don't like it. Humorless, sad, pathetic people... Well, not all of them, just some joyless people with too much time on their hands.

To be honest, I was expecting more - I thought after all this time ole Kev would have put out something less "juvinille" - and I'm SICK AND TIRED of those two idiots he always puts in.

Dude, WTF do you expect from a Kevin Smith movie? Jay and Silent Bob are in all of his movies (if that's who you mean) because Silent Bob IS Kevin Smith. Also most of his fans judge the coolness of his movies by whether or not they're in it.

if fans judge the film based on the appearance of Jay and Silent Bob.... then thank god the fate of Hollywood isn't in their hands.

anybody see the weekend Estimates?

$9,265,000 opening weekend. Not bad... the film mades its budget back.

Yeah, I saw it Friday night. It's classic Kevin Smith again....that's for sure.

The characters of Dante and Randall were really explored a little more in this one. Some mushy parts but overall freaking hilarious.

The movie nerd debates and countless other film references were great. "Would you f*ck me? I'd f*ck me."

Clerks II is great. Even Anne Frank could see that.:)

....yes, I know all of this, babe. Jay and Silent Bob are worn out, IMHO. Also, the "loyal fans" don't judge whether or not they're in his flicks...like you said, they're in ALL of his flicks...it's by what words of wisdom "Silent Bob" gives. Get the facts straight, Peppy.:D

Technically, they're not in all of his flicks.

They're not in "Jersey Girl", at all. You could almost say that they're not in "Chasing Amy" because they're only in it for a ten or so minute scene in which Bob does most of the talking. I love this scene because Jay's immaturity is tuned down a bit(which is also how it seemed in "Clerks II").

Ah, well, my apologies....I've not seen Jersy Girl

Still, I really was expecting more....which is probably why I didn't like it. (Kinda like the Anti-Land folks. Most of them got their hopes up and were let down because they expected a little more than what they got.)

My hopes were pretty high and I think they were exceeded. I loved "Clerks II". Many great tributes/references to the original film and others, Rosario Dawson dancing in a tank top, donkeys, pillow pants, manginas, ......what is there to not like?:p

I noticed when I was leaving the theater that my face was hurting from two hours of laughter. Funny flick.

saw it saturday night it was even better than i was expecting.

Randall's look during the whole "pillowpants" thing just killed.

It made me rethink Land, in fact. I figured that the reason I didn't like Land was because I went into the theater knowing it would rock, and it didn't. When I saw Clerks II I went knowing it would rock; and it did. So maybe it wasn't just me; maybe Land really DID suck...

With all due respect to the Kevin Smith fans out there, which I was one a long time ago, I thought the movie was an absolute piece of garbage. Watching a guy suck & **** a donkey does not strike me as funny(I don't know, maybe I'm just getting older?). Seeing Jason Mewes's pubes does not make me laugh. And watching a dance number of "ABC" was lame to say the least. I laughed maybe one time and the audience I watched the movie with laughed just a couple of times. It was a bad movie. It looks to me like the greatness of the original film was just a fluke. IMHO, of course.

agreed. i wnet in expecting an average kevin smith film, i wasn't readying for Jay doing the tuck, or Listerfeind. the film was excellent.

Land, just needed a re-write. the film lacked an overall context, and better thought out characters. and the priest zombie needed to go. **** that sequence was dumb.

you don't like the movie, so by your logic. Smith is untalented and his other films were "flukes".

Well, sometimes these things happen, but my theatre had exactly the opposite reaction. Did the theatre's seat cushions have sticks protruding from them vertically (i.e. did everyone have a stick up their ass that night)? We just don't know. Group consensus-building does happen. I mean, look at all the people who are psyched about Snakes on a Plane. Well, it goes in the negative direction, as well, and, of course, there were going to be people who didn't find this brand of humor to their liking.

No, you are wrong with your statement. I said the original film was a fluke. Not his other films. In a previous thread about Smith's fight with Joel Siegel I stated that the original "Clerks" was his only really decent film. Looking at his body of work all together shows that most of his films are just not that good. Again, IMHO.
I originally liked "Chasing Amy" and "JSBSB" alot. But after watching them again recently, I see them totally different now. The guy has been making movies for over a decade and you would like to see him actually grow as a writer and director, instead of just recycling the same stuff(i.e. long winded speeches and diatribes that people never really make in real life to begin with gets boring eventually.) Like I said, this is just an opinion from a former long time fan of his. And we all know what they say about opinions.

"Jersey Girl" was fairly large step into another direction for Smith. And judging by the "Thanks to 'The Snowball Effect' for making me remember how much I love Clerks" as well as "Jay and Silent Bob may one day return, but for now they're taking it easy" during te credits....."Clerks II" was probably a one-time reunion kind of deal with those characters and will probably be the last Jay and Bob film that we see for quite some time.

I don't understand how you think it's recycling. It's just the way Smith writes dialogue. Aside from a few random topics that get brought into conversation throughout the films, I can't see anything recycled. Possibly a few things in "Mallrats".....but nothing else really.

I thought "JSBSB" was the final go 'round? Anyway, I certainly hope that is the last film that features those characters. I have a funny feeling it will not be though.

It probably won't be the absolute last but we most likely won't see another for a long time, anway.
"JSBSB" was supposed to be the last film but I guess he couldn't stay away from his characters....

Like I said, "Clerks II" was supposedly made because a combination of of things coming together at once. Mewes getting clean and his agreement with Smith, "The Snowball Effect", "Jersey Girl" not doing as well as hoped(in some cases), and the Weinstein Bro's seemingly always having money for whatever idea pops into Smith's head.

I did notice that when Dante's fiance was talking to him, this gist of the conversation, even the delivery was almost exactly the same sort of dialogue from the first Clerks when Dante is speaking to the girl that's marrying the Asian design major. Some of it IS recycled, but it's stuff you'd only notice if you watched Clerks and then part 2 right after each other. The long speaking parts are redundant, but they always work in a laugh or two or add to the plot; ie, if they went out, it'd detract from the movie.

Just my opinion, anyway.

Well, I do believe there has been a full length animated movie planned for some time that will be in the same vain as the animated series. I think the name is Clerks: Sell Out. No, I'm not joking.

Also Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers is one of Smith's next definite projects and he recently acted in two movies (though I think they may have been cameos, not sure).

He has a part in Richar Kelly's "Southland Tales" and according to IMDB, has a voice in "Doogal"(?) and has a part in "Bottom's up".

I haven't heard about the "Ranger Danger" thing, although it would kinda explain Randall's shirt. I I heard his next project was probably going to be the "Green Lantern". But that was quite awhile back. I'm just glad they didn't go with his "Superman" script:skull:

Just finished watching it (I simply couldn't wait for it to come to the UK, no doubt it'll be in bleedin' September! So I downloaded a decent quality VCD).

Anyway, I have to say, it was absolutely fantastic, I'm quite speechless, it really was incredibly funny as well as very moving (the penultimate scene for instance, between Dante and Randal).

It was only 90 minutes long, but it didn't feel like 90 minutes, it was so fast paced that you feel you're getting a 2 hour movie in 90 minutes. I was a bit sceptical about "the new guy" (Trevor Ferhman) at first (just going on the Trainwreck vlogs) but I was pleasantly surprised to find a really entertaining character. Same with Becky (minus the scepticism) and the inclusion of Jay & Bob was like Smith was saying, not an intrusive part, just something in the background like the original Clerks (nice to see a return to handheld conversations too and dropping some of the fancy camerawork). "Goodbye Horses" is never going to be a song not associated with a skinny dude tucking his beanbag back is it?

I've gotta admit this flick had be rolling around in my chair - ROFLCOPTER overload quite frankly, and yet it was really quite touching as things moved on. In fact, I really wanna watch it again (but I must refrain lest I burn myself out on it).

Kevin Smith back on form after a couple of flicks that weren't his best (although I did think Jersey Girl was a good flick (if a tad cliched at points, but The Fleck really did act his ass off in it) and Strike Back was good for a cheap bit of fun).

Classic scene after classic scene, and some nice hark backs to the original flick. I'll do my damndest to catch this in the cinema and getting this bitch on DVD is a no brainer (here's hoping for the good release straight away, none of that vanilla sh*t).

I haven't seen it yet, but i bet it'll never be as good as the original. I think the old one needs a little bit more intelligence and patience to appreciate because my dumb-ass (literally stupid) friend watched it with me and he outright didn't get it at all.
