Well it's about damn time.

Not really Romero's style, I'm sure, as he's never really been in the whole Hollywood game that much and has steered clear of it for the most part, but his contribution to cinema is without question - great to see him recognised!

Isn't he very anti-Hollywood? Seems ironic.

People have been trying for years to fundraise to make this happen. I'm happy to see it happen regardless of how Romero himself feels about it. He may be anti Hollywood. . .but he has nonetheless influenced cinema and deserves to be credited for it!

His influence on horror cinema has been immense (even if we limit it just to zombie movies), so the accolade is well deserved.

But, I think George might be a bit meh about the whole thing. :D

The sad thing is that the majority of the non-horror fan general public who have even heard of Romero are going to think the accolade is for his later more "Hollywoodish" efforts that they are familiar with, like Land or Survival. He deserves the recognition, but for the original Dead trilogy, horror anthologies like Creepshow and Tales from the Darkside (both TV show and movie), and the like earlier productions of his career. He should have been given the recognition long ago, when his output was at his best.

That was my first thought. I can imagine him laughing it off and saying hes not interested. But I am glad he's getting some recognition in his twilight years...

I'm sure somewhere Romero is saying "Well, fuck it, why not."

Well deserved.
