What's he using to snap these?

A telescope... ;)




He's bought a good second hand telescope and a fairly good stand (which can track objects across the sky). He then has an adapted SLR camera in it, all feeding into a little rasberry pi unit to capture the photos.

He then takes multiple long exposures and 'stacks' them to build up the final image.

Probably high hundreds of pounds of expense (so far).

Here's his PC monitoring his Rasberry Pi doing a set of shots for X hours... Cool tech!

May as well tell those James Webb folks to call it off :)
