Secret service agents from the White House have Borat, the fictional TV reporter from Kazakhstan, in their sights.

Sacha Baron Cohen's comical character was turned away from the White House by security after attempting to invite President George Bush to a screening of his new movie, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

And it seems officials from Kazakhstan are also taking aim at the comedian, with Kazakh press secretary Roman Vasilenko telling the Reuters news agency: "He is not a Kazakh. What he represents is a country of Boratastan, a country of one."

Borat's new film is opening in the US, but his portrayal of Kazakhstan as a medieval nation of drunken anti-Semites who treat their women worse than their donkeys has caused anger.

His latest stunt was timed to coincide with a visit to the US by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who has attempted to raise the profile of the oil-rich former Soviet republic and counter Borat's claims, ITV reported.

Kazakh officials, fearful people might see him as a real representation of the country, have also responded with an advertising campaign on US TV and in magazines to try and control their image.

However, Borat was quick to label the adverts, promoting Kazakhstan's religious tolerance and gender equality, "disgusting fabrications".

"These claims are part of a propoganda campaign against our country by evil nitwits Uzbekistan - who as we all know are a very nosey people, with a bone in the middle of their brain," he said in a press release.

"If there is one more item of Uzbek propaganda claiming that we do not drink fermented horse urine, give death penalty for baking bagels, or export over 300 tonnes of human pubis per year, then we will be left with no alternative but to commence bombardment of their cities with our catapults," he told Reuters.

I think that Sacha Baron Cohen is a pretty funny guy, but I am not sure in this time of "heightened security", pulling a stunt like this is the best move to make.
