Oh yes, what a classic double bill. If I were there Coma, I get a 6 pack and sit my ass back with those two beauties. I too saw The Crazies in the eighties but for some reason it didn't work on me back then. Then I acquired it on dvd a few years back. Oh how wrong I was! Enjoy your movie night man.

I looked ahead and didnt see any rerun. Thats usually one of the good points of TCM. every other channel palyes the same movies over and over.
They are showing a lot of classic horror/SF films though.
I would suggest getting a hold of the Crazies. Its really good early 70s GAR, the wierd shots, grainy film stock, creepy vignettes. And a lot of action.
If I see it on a gain, ill let you know

Thanks, man.

I've tried finding it on dvd with no luck. Man....I was so close and I let it slip through my fingers.

I got to finally see Ed Wood's classic "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and "Bride of the Monster" on TCM Underground, though.:)

I'd recommend The Crazies.

It's definitively early GAR - particularly noticed through his editing. It's very low budget, but early GAR was always very low budget. It's quite enjoyable I found, the image of all these guys in white chemical suits and black gas masks with rifles is quite eerie. Overall a good flick, I'd even go as far as saying it's under-appreciated.

I got the DVD (Region 1 - again, what's with all the sucky Region 2 GAR duh-vuh-duhz?) and while not exactly brimming with, well, anything beyond a commentary (which was a good one though), it's definately worth picking up. Get some old school GAR in your veins!

I would say if you like George's films, you'll like the crazies.
And its got Dr Rouche (different name)
and Dr "Frankenstein" Logan as "dad". Cant remember the characters name.
The beginning is really creepy too and well shot.

I agree that the commentary is very good.
