Ever since I first heard that Casino Royale was getting made properly (i.e. not like the comedy version) I was really excited. I saw Die Another Day in the cinema and was rather let down, it was alright, but it was so overblown and silly and un-real in all aspects from the tech to the action and to Bond himself.
I had been really impressed by Craig in "Layer Cake" where he commanded both a suave subtlety and a powerful strength - ideal for the new tougher, grittier Bond - something which I'm really looking forward to seeing. Going back to the start of Bond - especially adapting from Flemying material - is something I'm really excited about. I haven't really seen the Bond movies before Brosnan (I know, sacrilege) but I'm slowly getting there.
Anyway, point being - blond or not (who cares about his hair!? :|) - they wouldn't have picked him if he wasn't the right man for the job. I've always been well up for this film and the early reviews are now confirming my expectations for greatness.
A reboot, a refresh if you will, for the Bond franchise.:cool:

Some of the hardcore James Bond geeks have been flaming Daniel Craig and for some reason I had that 'hunch' he was gonna kick ass all along. Personally, I think Pierce Brosnan played a stereotypical Bond and his presence was often similar to that of a tree. This flatlined franchise had just been given a jumpstart by a damn fine actor, I can't wait for this!

I'm eagerly looking forward to it. Martin Campbell resurrected the film franchise with "Goldeneye" and I suspect he will do the same with "Casino Royale".
Having read the book and being a fan of 007.......I'll be in the theater on opening weekend....that much I can assure you off.:D
I saw "Layer Cake" and rock on Craig....I have faith in you.

Layer cake was the reason why I knew he was gonna rock the Bond role all along. He's a different cup of tea altogether and I like that.

A tree!!?? You give him too much credit!
I've been a Bond fan for as long as I can remember.......HATED Brosnan!!! We'll see what Daniel Craig can pull off!! (At least it's not someone like Viggo "I Couldn't Act My Way Out of a Wet Paper Bag if my life depended on it" Mortensen or that awful Heath "Please Pass the Blush and Mascara - Oh and While You're at it, Saddle me up a Horse and get Neil Patrick Harris on the phone, Pronto!" Ledger)
I'm still waiting on the day we get a FEMALE 007!!!!! (you know they're gonna:p )
Personally, I think the next Bond should be black.....and played by Samuel L. Jackson. "Enough is enough! I have had it with these motherf*cking zeroes next to my motherf*cking SEVEN! !!!"

a female 007? are you mad?! how would do you translate one of the ultimate masculine archetypes into a female? hehe a lesbian bond?
actually, suddenly i agree with you...
really looking forward to a decent casino royale, they flame craig but theres a sketch of bond done for newspapers by fleming himsel, and guess what, he looks creepily like d. craig.

lol, can't see a female Bond, because like the stereotype goes:
* Bloke who shags loadsa women = "top man, good on ya, wey-hey"
* Woman who shags loadsa men = "you slaaaaaaag"
* Woman who shags loadsa women = "top shelf XXX Bond spin-off"

I thought Brosnan rocked the sh*t in "Goldeneye". Then the films gradually got worse and worse.
A female 007? Then it wouldn't be cool if she screwed 8 men in one movie.....she would just be a whore.

Goldeneye was a good start, but the rest of brosnan's were dire, they turned bond into a sub-arnold action hero, plus the plots of his last two movies were stupid.
the director of goldeneye is doing casino royale btw.

Browneye was okay but I think last 'great' bond movie was Moonraker. Sorry guys...

05-Nov-2006, 06:33 PM
oh man, i'll have to agree to disagree there! i didn't like the comedy elements in moonraker (like the pidgeon double taking at bond's boat) at all, kinda spoilt it for me.
you got no time for "license to kill"? i quite liked the darker feel.

Yeah....I thought Moonraker was a bit cheesy, too. It was decent, though.
My three favorites are probably Goldfinger, Goldeneye, and Live and Let Die.:)

its funny, if bond was a women sleeping with multiple men she is a whore but whern bond is a man its just cool.
God forbid if Heath or Viggo become a James Bond. Viggo has no personality, no charm.
I liked Brosnan but Sean will always be the best Bond.

Same thing happened with Pierce Brosnan after Roger Moore left the series. They wanted Brosnan but because of "Remington Steele", they had to go with Timothy Dalton.

I quite liked "LicenCe to kill"...
The original title of the movie was to be "Licence Revoked", but results of a survey which showed that approximately 50% of American's did not understand the term "revoked" allegedly lead to the change. A fierce battle was fought for the title to be Americanized to "License To Kill" (with an "s"), but the British version won out.

Something people may or may not know, but I was watching Top Gear yesterday (as always) and when they were picking the new Bond after Sean Connery (which Moore won as we all know), one of the last 6 was that explorer chap - Ranulph Fiennes, but the Brocoli guy said no because Fiennes' hands were too big and he had the face of a farmer, lol.
Interesting tidbit I thought...

But you forget that George Lazenby was chosen to play Bond in "OHMSS", but then Connery came back for "Diamonds Are Forever". THEN Roger Moore came in with "Live and Let Die". So do you mean he was almost chosen for "OHMSS" or for "Live and Let Die"?
Not to mention, Connery came back once more for "Never Say Never Again". But that was a different production company and it wasn't up to par with the other films. Plus, Connery's hair peice was distracting as all hell in that movie.:p

See, this is what I mean by not being into the pre-Brosnan bonds (yet anyway).
All I know is that in the interview he said that Moore won out over him, so I presume it must have been for the movie that Moore first appeared in as Bond.
