As I'm a college student getting a political science degree with a business degree and trying to be certified to be a teacher, I was just wondering how close is your current job/career to what you studied for in college?

You know those little urinal cakes that smell like flowers when you piss on em?

I studied sociology & philosophy at university, It continues to serve me well by helping me to keep my mind alert as I endure the grinding drudgery of my current employment. I can often be found sitting on my forklift pondering an excluded middle or a knotty piece of epistemology.:D Seriously, I went to uni for me, not for the job prospects or qualifications or any of that stuff, those subjects continue to enthrall me and I'll finish my degree when I can afford to, one day.;)

Why do you guys make them look like pineapple chunks? I get caught out by that every time....

can you really sculpt those urinal cakes with your stream, or is that just my wishful thinking?

i always try to make a hole in the middle. *ahem*

I don't have a career yet, but currently I work at a Blockbuster with a Game Rush in it... which is like a Gamestop or EB Games.

I changed my major 3 times in college and ended up with a degree in general studies... I am going to go back to college in January so that I can get a degree in something that will help to get a better job and possibly a career.

I'm currently at the beginning of a journey to (hopefully) become a writer/director in film/tv. Currently struggling along - which seems to be par for the course when you're not rich or well connected - doing the odd bit of freelance work when I can get it, but 2006 has been a good year thus far and things are moving (albeit slowly) but they're moving.

Currently, apart from working on I Am Zombie Man 2 (:)), I have an idea for a film I'd like to shoot next year, which I'm going to approach a local media group (whom I worked with/for earlier this year) to see if we can make it into a community project to provide folk like me with an opportunity to gain work experience on a film project in my region of the country (i.e. not fahkin' Lahndahn).

As I've been struggling along, I thought it would be a good idea to try and create opportunities for others with projects I create, this idea I'm currently brainstorming would be the first of such projects. The project itself is a comedy.

Fvck that. Props from me, I like what I've seen of yours a bunch. Connections are nice, but talent leaves a much nicer smell in the end. If I counted on "connections", I'd be sitting in a gas station convenience store on Long Island. Do what you do, and do it with some damn conviction. If you're good, and not a douchebag, you always have a shot. Struggle is life. And if you don't push, you end up seeing the rich kids getting all the candy, and that's just depressing.

Mucho appreciente dude.

Aye, I like to do what I do and I don't "get" directors who are idiots and pissy to their crew. Hopefully the old Karma thang will kick in, good things come to those who wait, do good things and good things happen kinda deal. :) I'm prepared for a long, slow walk up that hill anyway, I'm kind thinking about around 8 years until things have reached the beginning of the ultimate goal...if things go faster, then wicked, if it does take that long - well, I'm already prepared.

got a doctorate in classical studies. i used to teach at the university of cincinnati- which was not something that i found enjoyable. then i went and became an editor at a small publishing house in cincinnati. now i have taken time off and am a stay at home dad- i have a 10 month old boy. my wife is a professor at miami univ. so she makes the bucks and i spend them. quite a role reversal.

Currently I'm leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that my next leap... will be the leap home.

Seriously:

I have an honours degree in Network Computing (2:1) but I'm unemployed.

Got an IT contract lined up for 3 weeks on the 27th, but nothing else after it. My biggest problem is the lack of a driving licence, but to get one I need money, to get money I ned a job; catch 22 al the way baby!

What's That?

MinionZombie
10-Nov-2006, 05:53 PM
hehe, an NVQ is a "National Vocational Qualification" - basically, what non-academic kids do to get a decent level of qualification before they leave high school.

Perhaps a tad unfair, but aren't stereotypes always that way when makin' jokes, but you often find the more 'get up and go' non-academic (or down right thick) types taking an NVQ, they also have GNVQ ("general" I think).

Guess that gag kinda fell a bit flat. :D
