Lincoln might have went on a genocidal rampage against us and he might have sent his goon, Sherman, to burn Atlanta and Columbia to the ground, and he might have suspended Habeas Corpus for us and radical republicans might have seized our plantations and our land and made us lick their boots while our women were raped and our children cried, and Lincoln might have made us swear allegiance to the "union," but good ol' Booth still shot him between the eyes!

Lincoln suffered the fate of all tyrants, death.

Well none of that didn't happen if you didn't want to make missouri and kansas slave states. Hapers ferry would never have happend if you didn't whip black people into picking cotton and calling you massa. But ya know, it's fine you lost. Being proud of the Racist hate filled confederacy is equivilent in my mind to waving a nazi flag. Why would anyone ever be proud of defending the rights to keep slaves is beyond me.

aint missouri the only state where you can have sex with a dog but not another man?

love it.

not the opression, the bizarreness...

anyway i think a lot of people fly the rebel flag to show that they feel alienated from the north & the white house. identity rather than policy.although there is a texan in the white house. bah i dunno.

although your flag does have the crescent in it, & doesn't islam condone slavery? i am PROBABLY wrong about that though!

You, like all yankees, are hyprocritical revisionists. When Lincoln emancipated the slaves, he only freed the slaves in secessionist states. While that lying bastard was demonizing the south for slavery, he allowed slavery to continue in states that didn't secede. Missouri (actually seceded but was occupied by federal troops), Kentucky, Delaware and Maryland were allowed by Lincoln to keep their slaves. Get your facts straight before you make "slavery" the key issue of the war.

Regardless of what Lincoln did to end slavery, one of the main reasons why the war was started was because of that.

Turkey is about as secular state as there can possibly be, women are banned from wearing burka's and other head dreases into goverment buildings.

Islam in it's most fundamental form does, but who cares about that?

No problem here, sir. Just saying that folks today aren't responsible for the atrocities of the past. And just as someone sporting a Turkish flag does not necessarily mean that they supported Armenian genocide, the same could be said for others who sport different flags.

That being said, I doubt Andy will be adding the confederate flag.:)

It was a war about a States right to have slaves. So it's both. And more but it is all tied to the issue beginning with the Kansas Nebraska Act. The South fired first and then they lost. If they didn't attack Fort Sumner it might have dragged to maybe never start. And the South had concentration camp AND slaves so stop acting like they were poor victims. Civil War is always nasty and the last Civil War veteran died in about 1920.
And Lincoln didnt halt habeus corpus in the CSA because it was an independant country.
Funny how people say it's not a racist flag than support an apartheid govt that ceased to exist like 145 or so years ago. It's a nice looking flag and all, but c'mon with that corny Foghorn Leghorn yankee stuff. Thats just about 50 years out of date. and the CSN lasted for only about 4 years anyway. I don't think it's neccasrily a flag of racist, but the racists sure love it so.
Damn Know Nothings. Tiippecanoe and Tyler too!

Well guys, take it from someone who lives in Tennessee and sees that damn disgrace of a flag all the time.

The common thing heard around here is "It's not racial, it's historical" and that usually comes from someone who has just called a black person a n!gger!

In today's world, the confederate flag means one thing and one thing only, racism!! You WILL NOT be able to fly a confed flag without being accused of it, even if it's not your intention! That is the society we live in.

As far as I am concerned that is what it is as well.

On the slavery thing, remember, Lincoln was only following his religion.

We all now how Christianity advocates slavery, have you read the Old Testament lately??

Yeah I live in Northern VA....so seeing the Confederate Flag is a semi rare...Southern VA its much more common....

But when one sees someone sporting the Confederate Flag in my area of northern VA I think the overwhelming majority of all people just grin or laugh... because its like walking around with a sign that says:

I own a Confederate and proudly salute it. It has to do with my Southern heritage and pride not racism. The flag that is viewed as a racist flag was a battle flag. I'm sick and tried of KKK, Arians, and black extremists giving my flag a bad rap. The Civil War wasn't based entirely on slavery.

I dont personally think that the Confederate flag stands for slavery or racism any more than stars and stripes do (which was the flag of default flying over most plantations before the war) but lets be realistic. The war wasnt fought over "states rights" and thats it. The entire thing sparked because you guys down south had free slave labor that we didnt have up north to the same degree. And as such slavery came into question, especially when you all wanted to deny your slaves all freedom and rights and yet still count them in your census' to determine political power. It was bully on your parts. If you had just gone with the flow and gotten rid of the slavery then the war wouldnt have happend, but you guys went to the death over it. If you THINK most people dont think that when they see your Confederate flag flying and think they will just be like oh its all about his heritage and growing peanuts and cotton, then youre nuts. They started the war, made a new country then put that flag up to represent it. Then you got WTFPWNED by the north, deal with it.

Just a little side note.....I saw a trailer for this flick called "The Confederate States of America" that was about how the country would be had the south won the war. Man....it looks friggin hilarious. Do yourself a favor and search for the trailer.

I work with a lot of people that are exactly like what you've described. I went around and asked a little poll.

Most all of the rednecks said Pride and Heritage.

Everyone else said Hatred or Racism.

The MAJORITY of people who view that Confederate "rag" as a symbol of pride and heritage are going to be white, male, and their personalities are going to lean more toward the "reneck" stereotype.

At least where I live. And I think middle Tennessee qualifies pretty heavily as an area where "Confederate Pride and Heritage" is pretty popular.

I don't mean to be an ass, I know a lot of people are pretty serious about thier pride of the confed flag.

I just think thier beliefs are very uneducated and misguided!

I can understand the sentiment in owning a confederate flag if you like a Civil war buff...
But displaying it on your car or house?....or my personal favorite painted on your roof....? :)

Also if its like a Civil War Memorial I dont think theres anything wrong with displaying the confed flag...because it makes sense in that its a historical memorial and that flag was part of that portion of US history...

but....Personal Herititage and History? *rolls eyes*

The allure of the Confederate flag, to me in a small way, is that rather than bowing to the orders of the northern states to abolish slavery and ruin the economy, they gave it the old college try. They seceded from the union and went to war over what they believed in.

In fact I think that's a good idea for today's crowd. There are so many anti-war/Bush/Republican/relgion/anything not liberal folks out there, you all should secede from the union and go to war with the rest of us over your "rights" for abortion, social programs, legal drugs, gay marriage, and all that. I personally find the Confederate battle flag about as racist and ignorant as your average liberal at a war protest; and about as offensive. The Confederate flag stood for slavery, an uprising against the legally elected government, and freedom for their point of view; the liberals of today stand for slavery (a society where the populace subsists at the teat of the government and cannot live on its own), an uprising against the legally elected government (threatening impeachment and vociferously attacking anything and everything our president does), and freedom for their point of view (basically an ideology that states everything right is wrong, and everything left is right).

So whereas some of you feel anger or whatever at the sight of a confederate flag, I feel pity for those who fly it, and a little admiration that they still will fly it in times like these. But I still feel the same for your average liberal who takes it so personally, just without the admiration.

Uhh, heritage by definition is

her·it·age /ˈhɛrɪtɪdʒ/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[her-i-tij] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1. something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth; an inherited lot or portion: a heritage of poverty and suffering; a national heritage of honor, pride, and courage.
2. something reserved for one: the heritage of the righteous.
3. Law.
a. something that has been or may be inherited by legal descent or succession.
b. any property, esp. land, that devolves by right of inheritance.

That means that my heritage can be that culture of Irish and Italian peasants living in slums of NY at the turn of the century. Thats the family line I have been born into and thus what I have inhereted. Erego what you said is obviously wrong.

And I am not one for throwing a race card around or whining about discrimination for minorities, but tell the black kids who are legitimately hindered by a heritage of a racially concience society, and tell them that thier ancestors being slaves and living through Jim Crow era laws DONT effect them becase they werent born in it.

Yes and no...

1. all those preference policies are pushed by who? White liberals exactly.

And they harm blacks more than help them. By lowering the bar, and patting them on the head the government assures that they will perpetually be dependant on the system, be less competitive and less educated then every other group in the country. Does Affirmitive action piss me off? HELL YES its pure racism, both against whites AND blacks. Against whites because it discriminates against us by denying us opporitunity, and against blacks by patting them on the head and telling them that they cannot compete equally because of thier race. I think we actually get off lighter in light of this situation. I may get denied a job, and be considered a racist for being proud of my european heritage, but at least I am not insulted for being independant, or intelligent. Like black people are. Dont believe me? Check out people like John McWhorter, LaShawn barber or Thomas Sowell, black conservatives who are considered to be sellouts, whores and uncle toms for not going with the established liberal doctrines of depending on the government and race based preferences.

ALL THAT ASIDE, I will attest that I am a right wing radical, this is true. HOWEVER I am not blind enough to say that the things of the past dont effect us today. There is lots of racism in the country, because we live in a race obsessed nation. And black folks still suffer from a legacy of that racism. So do other groups, INCLUDING white people. But that doesnt mean like I said that legacies cannot affect us today.

That's almost exactly like being a German and owning a Nazi flag and being proud of it (banned in Germany, btw) and saying a Swastika just means "good will".
