Hmmm ... I thought Nicotero was the big man on gore campus ... evidently not, I hope these Gaslight guys bring forth some awesome work. I have to say, I'm still wavering on Diary, I'm not sure what to think, I'm swinging back and forth on it thus far ... still though, bring it on.

I'm glad that some people might consider Diary a "dry" film with gore on the level of Night of Living Dead.

Many sadists watch Romero's dead fims solely because of the gore and miss the point of the movie altogether.

I would like to see Diary much more character driven (ie. Night and Dawn) with fewer gimmicks than Land (ie. Pop-top zombie, Big Daddy and Cholo zombie). Eventhough gorehounds have sabotaged this genre, I would prefer to see Romero churn out an intelligent film with gore used effectively (ie. apartment scene in Dawn), but not overtly (ie. any mindless Romero knock-off).

This is the best news i've heard about Diary in quite a while. Good article!

You hit it right on the head chaos, people lose the point of GARs films and are in it for the gore. I guess that is one of the things that sets us as a group apart from the everyday casual fan. We can see what GAR intended his films to be, rather the gore fest that some are looking for.

I think that is one of the things that made Night so great was that it wasn't as "in your face" as the others as far as gore goes. It was there, but subtle enough to allow you to use your own imagination.

For 1968 it was HUGELY in your face. I think you are looking at it from a too modern perspective. The eating scenes were extremely nasty, even now.

And Im not it in for the gore either, but it sure is nice that it's there. If it didn't have any I am sure I would love them anyway.

I saw it before DOTD came out and anybody else who did too will say the same thing I did. It was truly shocking. Ecspecially that it was done artfully rather than pornographic exploitation like HG Lewis.

For anyone who wants a plot and character driven zombie classic, I can recommend Breakfast at the Manchester Morgue. It's Grade A zombie stuff, on some levels on par with Romero's films and on other levels even exceeding him. It's fairly early too, so it's not very bloody. But it's definetly moody.

And speaking of Night - it's on the Sci-Fi channel here in the UK right now, it's just ending, but still going on the "+1" version of the channel.

"Breakfast at the Manchester Morgue" is actually the films international title. But it has many other local titles! It's also called Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue and Don't Open the Window.

I picked it up last week and was very pleasantly surprised.
