Injured man wins damages for sex overdrive

LONDON (Reuters) - A devout Christian who said an accident at work boosted his libido and wrecked his marriage as he turned to prostitutes and pornography was awarded more than 3 million pounds ($5.89 million) in damages Tuesday.
Stephen Tame, 29, from Suffolk, suffered severe head injuries in a fall, transforming him from a loyal newlywed into a "disinhibited" character who had two affairs.
He was in a coma for two months after falling from a gantry while working at a bicycle warehouse shortly after his marriage in January 2002. Doctors said it was a miracle he survived.
Awarding him 3.1 million pounds in compensation at London's High Court, Judge Michael Harris said: "His life and the life of his young wife were shattered."
His former employer, Professional Cycle Marketing, of Essex, had argued through their lawyers that his injuries were not as bad as suggested in court.

Its not impossible. Brain Damage can disrupt the impulse control center of the brain leading to all kinds of uncharacteristic behavior. And an employers lawyers and insurance saying he is not injured doesn't impress me at all. They ALWAYS say that.
Sorry, but i am not sure (at all) that this is a good example of lawyers run amok.

There have been many documented cases about such things, I'm not sure about whether his claim is just (i.e. was he just being a silly billy and caused his own fall?) - but yep, frontal lobe damage, but also brain damage in general, to the brain can cause a myriad of different changes to someone's personality.

It can inspire violent moodswings and outbursts, it can turn people into sex crazed loons as well.

These changes can be almost completely solved through therapy and suchlike, but it takes a lot of time.

In September, Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond suffered a serious brain injury, but has made a miraculous recovery since. When he was in hospital there was talk that he could suffer from such things as mood swings, in fact he did suffer from depression afterwards, but like I said, he was a rare case where he came out of it perfectly fine.

Basically it's like the part of your brain that says "no" to things is broken and suddenly everything is acceptable to you, like they say - total disinhibition to sexual matters for example.

Thats what I'm saying exactly. Many mass Murderers and serial killer often have a behavioral change traced to a frontal lobe injury years before. I don't think it's that hard to believe smashing a part of your brain could cause strane things to happen.

You know its far from easy to win at all in a work injury case. The Insurance companies have armies of lawyers on retainer and they deny every single claim outright. Even when it's obvious you have a serious injury, they still say your lying as a matter of course. The system is tipped almost completly on their side. The only people who beileve it isn;t have not experienced the total screwjob you get when seriously injured on the job.
