I know this belongs in the fiction section
but i opened a thread and just started writing here, so I left it
alot of the older members seem to think the fiction written by members has waned in the recent years
I think if we all write short stories from the same world we can accomplish a greater body of work
this thread can be for any short stories based in a loosely similar world

feel free to add your own story to the thread,or comment on my story
if you're pissed off that I placed this here I'll move it

I wrote this in about an hour directly into the text box:

On the same day I learned of the outbreak
I saw for the first time
someone die
someone return from the dead
and my own hands wielding the scythe.

You never forget the first time you destroy a zombie
by that point you still havent come to terms with the reality of the experience.
The first time you kill a ghoul, its as if you are commiting murder. Ending a life. At least thats how it felt to me.
now
I look back at the experience with the knowledge that these creatures have no life in them. To clean them from the face of the earth is to cast their bodies into a fire that they will not feel.
They are as cold
as dead
as the bullets we use to dispose of them.

However, the guilt of killing struck me then
there was a certain numbness in my face and hands
I kept pushing on them trying to feel something real
its a power all people have
as perverse as it seems
to take another's life
and only those few who have managed to preserve their humanity
they are the ones who feel each time they lowered the population by one, two , or three

I suppose these people also did not survive
but ...
I envy them
they never lost the souls that made us more than animals

after the first murder, it was just surviving
i dont even remember any of them
killing someone bitten and screaming
was just as mindless as killing the living dead
i resent that similarity
when both the death of a friend and the death of a ghoul
add up to zero
thats when we are zombies

our bodies are intact
but our minds have long since rotted away
the bare instincts of animals
just another twisted version of what we fight against

the real humans, most of them anyway
died defending not themselves or shelters or supplies
but human decency
the sanctity of human life

The doctor he .
he called it PTSD, but they havent had medications for that in a long long time
hes says "While I am not a trained therapist, I can attempt several methods of cognitive behavior therapy. We'll see to those nightmares, and you'll meet others still having troubles. Alright? The most important thing for you to do right now is sleep, I'm going to give you a prescription for the only benzodiazepine left in manufacture. Now I know you have no recent history of drug usage, but I'm only giving you an Rx of 12 adult mg diazepam. Thats valium, do you understand?"
He says my best hope is to write things down, that i have to cope with traumas. I dont think its working.

I choose PTSD and turn in the same project with a little more research added in
