View Full Version : World War Z
I'm sure a thread has been made before, but it's past page 1, so I don't need to bump it. Anyway, what do you think about the movie based on Max Brook's book "World War Z"? It's gonna be released in 2008, and is being helmed by the company Plan B, owned by Brad Pitt. I expect a fair amount of gore and action, just as the book had, and some "Actual" footage. What stories do you want to see the most? For me, they are the celebrity house story, the Canadian wilderness story, and the story of the person who lives in the slums of africa or whatever, with the screwdriver-wielding woman. I also want to see the story about the documentary film maker who shows America that the war is being won, and the story about Yonkers, of course. More than anything, I want to see the story about the Americans who are cleaning up the zeds for hours, when they get pumped up with some Iron Maiden playing. Amazing stories for film.

the one that they captioned at the end of the last edition of Zombie Survival Guide...the Chinese communist dealing with the dead getting up.

I think it'd be cool to see the scene with the family driving north and picking up the lady walking by herself. When they find out she's been bitten and just leave her ass in the middle of nowhere, much like they found her...that's some pretty powerful stuff...much drama.
I also enjoyed the section with that cocky bitch from the Air Force who gets stranded in the woods after her plane goes down and has an imaginary conversation with herself through her radio to keep her sanity while trying to find shelter.
I don't remember when I last read a book as fast as this one. Max Brooks is a genius. This book was very well-thought out and if the movie falls into the right hands, could easily be the best zombie film since Day of the Dead nearly 20 years ago.

That whole thing with Yonkers didnt make any geographical sence to me at all. All these NYC Zombies are suppsed to moving up the Saw Mill Pkwy but that is not a direct route to Yonkers from Manhattan. It is indirect and there are so many tuen offs it makes no sence that so many would be on that one area. Shutting down the main bridges from Manhattan (2 big and 2 smaller) would make more sense. That leaves one tiny bridge in the north west Bronx to make a stand. Then you have all the Bronx zombies too from the East and South, but they would be extra rude and stupid zombies :p
I live sorta near the area by Yonkers where the battle is supposed to be and it just doesnt add up, kinda ruining one of the books better parts.
They film that in that actual spot, I am gonna be there and will file a report:)

the part where thousands of zombies go plunging into the ravine after the bridge is blown would make a great visual. good cgi....
and a news report about what happened in north korea would be neat. "should we go down into the underground and look to see what happend 14 million people" questions.

Luckily, it seems he will not have an active production role in the movie, nor an acting role. he may have a cameo, and he will help fund it, but that's all.

I'd hope they shoot it in a documentary style, that is, present day interviews with the participants, with dramatazations and stock footage cut into it, like some of the stuff you see on the History channel on something.
Stuff I want to see, the Chinse doctor's enoucnter with patient zero, the doctor in the Amazon who did the illegal organ transplants, the guy from Africa and his recounting of the zombies in the slum, the woman from Montana and her eno****er with a zombie, the blimp pilot's description of the road full of refugees heading no where between two infested cities, the Indian man at the ship breaking yard and the struggle to get onto a boat, the mentally stunted girl from Topeka, the Russian Decimations, the mercenary at the star's place, all of Todd Wainro's accounts, the Redeker Plan, Philip Adler's retreat from Hamburg, the Ukrania's useof poison gas at the bridge, the account of the girl from Wisconsin and her familie's flight to Canada, the Indian soldier meeting Gen. Raj-Singh, and the destruction of the road, Arthur Sinclair and the struggle to get the US back on it's feet, the Whacko, Joe Muhammad and what life was like on the 'safe' side of the Rocky Line, the documentary film maker, and especially the Battle of the Five Colleges, the bitchy woman Air Force pilot, the English man talking about fortifications and the part they played in the war and his encounter with the Queen of England, Radio Free Earth, whatever happened to North Korea? the neardy Japanese kid, and his blind mentor, Cuba, The Chinese sub, the Austrailian astronaut, the Chilean naval officer and his account of the Saratoga conference, the whoel Total War chapter as well as Goodbyes.
So yeah, pretty much the whole book, but the book was so well done it managed to convey the whole world situation and just how bad it got, and how victory and survival was snatched from the jaws of defeat and extinction. All those parts I mentioned usually showed just how difficult the zombie threat was, like Todd Wainro's account of Yonkers or Sinclair's framed root beer label and what that meant from keeping civilians and troops supplied, or how people rose to the challenge, like the Radio Free Earth segment or the crew of the ISS.
The documentary style I'd like to see could be like a camera recording a dying man in a hospital bed as the Austrailian astronaut recounts his time abut the ISS, cut with stock footage of say, spy satelites recording of zombies digging for rabbits, as he speaks of their discovery of zombie holes, and of a reenactment of him taking that EVA vehicle over to visit the Chinese satelite.
