"Spring 2006", damn straight that's "highly subject to change". :D
I hope it comes out soon, HL2 has been out for ages and we need some good FPS zombie action! I heard about NMRIH for HL2 a while back and it looked tasty back then, now it looks tastier and damnit, it want it now!

I got the new EGM yesterday, and they have an article for Left 4 Dead, a 4 player co-op game in which you band together and fight your way through a zombie apocalypse. The zombies are runners, and it looks to be really intense. 4 other people can take the place of super-powered "boss" zombies to fight against you. The preview was for 360, but its coming to PC too. Its from the same people who made "Counter Strike", so it should be a winner.

Shiite man, if you can get it for cheapy-nuts, then you might as well. PC gaming is officially the dogs big phat hairy testical-nuts ... hehe, kinda funny, you might be jumping onto some PC gaming, I'm looking to jump onto some Xbox 360 creamy goodness.

A fantastic looking mod, I hope it comes out soon, I've gotta get me some FPS zombie killin' action, us dead-heads are sorely in need of a top notch zombie game, even if it is a mod.
Road to Fiddler's Green was just really lame, but the mods were generally quite good, it was just let down by it's low-ass budget...

and dead rising spent too long trying to add a mission sturcture which ruined that one too.
i hope this one is just rnu of the mill half life style escaping, with resi 4 huose barricading and a touch of dead rising hundreds of zombies.

If the missions are suitable to the content style, then that's okay I guess, but if it's just some really standard videogame mission, then get the fudge out.

Like the part out on the coastal road and you can barricade the doors in that old abandoned house - damn I love doing that, although it only really works properly if you barricade from outside  ... but that doesn't stop you from piling up furniture against the doors, LOADS of fun.
There weren't really many other opportunities to barricade in HL2 though, unfortunately. Just set up gun turrets...here's hoping for NMRIH.

ah man imagine using the gravity gun on zombies *drolls* ,now THAT would be frickkin' awesome.
now im a big survival horror fan and ive played dozens and dozens of em, but aside from project zero (fatal frame) and forbidden siren i dont think ive seen anythign scarier than we dont go to ravenholm, cept maybe running out of ammo in the ganados town as the cahinsaw sack dude appears:dead:

Tell me about it, it looks awesome. I listened to most of the NMRiH broadcasts and some dude was saying that if you escape a pack of zeds and you enter a building with windows, they will try to get in by beating on them. That's something I would love to see.

Agreed, Ravenholm is still creepy as sh*t, they set it up really well - and subtly - in the story ... well, subtly enough anyway ... and when you finally get there you've got all these far off moans and clangs, the music is all spooky keyboards, you've got limbs hanging from trees, roasted corpses on spikes, derelict buildings filled with monsters, it's creepy-ass stuff ... then those rooftop-leaping running zombie type things come screeching at you sounding like some sexed up mong-head on crack, that noise just gives me the shivers...
Bring on that NMRIH mod already!

Tell me about it, I have flashbacks of that screaming mong-thing up in my face all the time ... it's like 'Nam ... well, not really, but it's one of those videogame moments that has stuck with me for some time...I always get that flappy-handed "no get away from me, eeuurgh!" kinda sensibility when those things come charging at me.

Hope so,ive seen videos of a few half life 2 zombie mods (not these mentioned in the thread) and they just use the head crab monsters as zombies which is a bit crap, give us some proper ones and make them behave like zombies!!and let us blow bits off rather than them just dropping after 5 bullets.Thats one thing that annoys me in most games, you can count the rounds you need to drop each enemy, even if you shoot it 5 times in the thumb it still drops.Make them hit location responsive!
MinionZombie

And that was one of the main problems I had with LOTD:RTFG, you could shoot a zombie five times in the foot and it'd die, and even if you shot it flat-out point blank in the middle of the face, it kept coming ... not exactly realistic, eh?

I guess what I was vaguely blurbing at was that it's most definitely up there in terms of scares but not the scariest. Oh wait, now I got someone telling me that all the inhabitants of Ravenholm are zombies. Aren't they dead humans possessed by headcrabs?
Danny
13-Mar-2007, 12:22 AM
and that differs from zombies how? a zombies just a body, alive or dead under the influence of some foriegn substance ranging from the ganados and the las plagas ,and the exocels and zombies in cold fear, to the ragers infected with ...er rage and the resi zombies who were under the influence of the T-virus.
capncnut
13-Mar-2007, 01:36 AM
When you put it like that, I guess they are zombies after all.
Totally unrelated but I just remembered a scene in HL2 where you begin in like a garden or summat and there's half a body hanging from a tree (I think) and you could make it swing by running into it or beating it. Damn effective stuff.

Actually, I got frustrated with that bit really quick - bored the granny out of me so I started running halfway through that level. Them squidgey ball things certainly helped out a lot later on.

I'm still reeling at how long that level was, seriously epic stuff. The thing is, you're having so much fun while you play it the time factor goes out of the window. Still, it ain't as long as that level on the bike - that seemed to go on for years.
MinionZombie
13-Mar-2007, 08:04 PM
Bike? Whatchu sniffing?
You mean the buggy? Or the boat? Yes, that goes on for ages, that's my main gripe with HL2, it's really long chunks stuck together, and you get really sick of the area about 3/4 of the way through, then finally get a change.
Like:
*loads of set up
*loads of canals
*loads of roads
*loads of prison
*loads of city
In no particular order there, but you get my point, it can get a bit samey after a while like I said, and you get tired of the area, and some areas aren't sh*t hot, like the canals go on a bit long because there's a lot of parts where you're just boating through storm drains and there isn't much running around shooting going on, so that can get the most tedious out of all the parts in the game (aside from all the lead-up after a bit, but first time round it's fine because it's new, but after that you just wanna skip to the action, unless you're a completist who wants to replay it all the way through start to finish).

Aye nova prospekt seemed to go on forever!i loved it for a while but it got a bit tedious...
MinionZombie
13-Mar-2007, 08:44 PM
Indeed, Nova Prospekt is a great area, but it suffers like all the other areas in HL2 suffer - going on too long and getting a bit samey after the 3/4 mark when you're tired of that setting and looking for something new.
So really, they needed to add a little bit more level/area variety in HL2 to make it perfect.
Therefore I'm really looking forward to Ep2's woodland/countryside area - it's a whole new ball game, baby!

HL2 had one of the best ending levels ever. Once you get that super-powered gravity gun, its over. Its like you're the angel of death descending upon the citadel.

13-Mar-2007, 11:50 PM
Really, you liked the final zone? I wasn't a fan, I have to say, some of it was good, but again, went on too long and you're all kinda tuckered out as it's the end of the game.
Then of course there's more of that zone at the start of Ep1, so that was annoying for me personally, beyond that Ep1 gets good - despite just being more of the same city 17 stuff...bring on Ep2 and the NEW zone-age fun times. :D

I think YOU need to lay of the herb. The bit where the bombs falls from the sky when you're driving the boat bike. If you can't remember this (http://files.xboxic.com/general/half-life-2.jpg) bit then you obviously don't remember the game very well. That would explain our crossed wires, I only played it through the once you see, and I was stoned. I did it over two sessions and I clocked it with a time of 7 hours 30 something minutes. MinionZombie
16-Mar-2007, 12:01 PM
lol, ah well there you go!
And how dare you suggest my knowledge of HL2 is poor! :D
I might give it another razzle dazzle at some point, but with one week until STALKER spoodges all over the marketplace, I won't be fitting it in, especially as I'm currently having a lot of fun with Brothers in Arms again (the next gen "Hell's Highway" looks pretty good actually) ... it's not a superb game, it's not a terrible game, but there's fun to be had, and the historical accuracy is a nice touch (i.e. the levels constructed from maps and photographs taken at the time).
capncnut
16-Mar-2007, 12:35 PM
I'd like to get into a good war game. I played both the Call of Duty games but found them a little too hardcore and not enough story. Is Brothers in Arms any cop guv?
MinionZombie
16-Mar-2007, 01:03 PM
Brothers in Arms is more about story, the battles are more about tactics (fire and assault teams, flanking etc), rather than chaos or realism, so it's not the most exciting game, and the aiming is like a drunk baby holding a gun (which they say is "realistic", but I could hold a gun steadier than that for crying out loud!).
Worth peeping out I'd say, more of a thinking man's war game.
COD2 is for those seeking realism (or the closest thing to realism), and I absolutely loved COD2, I might get back on that in fact, give it another bashing through the American campaigns.
capncnut
16-Mar-2007, 01:15 PM
Thats a toughie 'cos I ain't a tactical player. Just something I can pick up and wade into.
MinionZombie
16-Mar-2007, 01:23 PM
Well I too am more the sort who just wants to run in, have a load of fun, and piss off again (hence why I like things like "God" or "Developer" mod a lot). I don't care about challenges or being a tactical gamer or conserving shiite, games are there for fun, running in with God mode on and blasting shiite up is my idea of fun.
Anyway, BiA has those modes, hehehe, but it's not overwhelming tactics, just you ordering your men about a bit, kinda like how in COD2 you on your own have to find a safe path through the landscape to advance ... a bit similar, but with you ordering several men about.
