my new super 8

i just got a super 8 from a thrift store for ten bucks, i was wondering if anybody knew where i could get myself some film for it?

Or perhaps specialist camera shops, maybe even places that specialise in converting film to different media might have some or know where to get some. I'm sure it is still produced as Super 8 is still used occasionally these days to achieve an effect in some movies for certain sequences.

We've got an old camera under the stairs, proper old school, it's a rectangular box with an eye hole to look through and one button you hold down to make the film run through, proper old school. I'm trying to find it online, but can't remember the name of it for the life of me...

I call 1-800-621-film and order directly from kodak. You can get a discount if you are a student, but you have to fax them proof. Let me know if you need any advice, ive been shooting super8 for about 5 years now. What brand is it?

Super 8 is cool as hell. Back in the 70s and early 80s I made many super8 films.
Editing is really tough tough cause its so small. You could find one of those cool editing machines somewhere like I used to have

You can do STOP MOTION animation. Take THAT DV cameras!
Matte shots, superimpose. double exposures.

I used to make laser blasts with either a pin scratch or a tiny paint brush with a little bleach on it. It looks really cool.

Me and my brothers made my dining room table into a desert planet city and combined all of those effects. Awesome stuff. boy, that was fun!

I guess you could just shoot and transfer to digital and edit on the comp.

There a store in NYC city that does mailorder film purchases and processing, but I cant remember right now. I will get the name and link and post later

Kodak would be your best bet. You will most probably have to pick up Ektachrome 64T for your camera as the Vision2 and Plus-X are a little harder to come by.

Those sort of cameras are shiite quality, and I certainly haven't seen any capable of doing stop motion animation...

Some DV cameras have the ability, but many/most don't ... or they have something near it, like half-a-second at a time, which is kinda pointless, too much for stop motion, not enough for anything else - ergo, whyyyyy?

I can only figure out sorta what you mean from MZ's response.
Free digital cameras? Huh. You syntax Reads like a chinese electronics manual.

I dont know of any circumstances where you get a free camera.

Reader digest is a magazine of condensed books that my grandmother used to get.

If your saying, (Thanks MZ) that a digital camera for free somehow compares with film stop motion you do know what your talking about. Have you ever shot film? doubt it by your response. I listed a host of things ALL of which are film only.:)
Shoot a claymation bit and you will see what I mean or make a sick matte shot.


I have to say this. I am almost ****ing blind and I take the time to try to be legible. Its not about seeing 8000 posts next to your name. Its about communicating ideas. and typing as fast as you can and giving no concern to the communication part (ie: legibility and semi readable syntax) kind of removes the point of posting. I like to read your posts, when/if I can or I wouldnt bother mentioning this.

dude, ive said this a couple of times i havent actually had much use with a keyboard in my life till this year (i just screwed around in it class), i know my typeing sucks balls, not bitchin' at you man. i get what you mean, but i dont care for typeing much im more of a pen and paper type myself.

From my experience, those sort of digital cameras that are free with something either have a catch, or are just really cheap things with a pretty damn ropey picture. You'd be better of using your mobile phone to film something, you've already got it and it'd be the same quality.

They're pretty much digital snappy-snap cameras for photos, with the ability to take video clips, but I certainly don't think you can do stop motion animation with them. Not sure where you're looking hellsing, but I've never come across anything free that can do something £2000 worth of camera doesn't do. :rockbrow:

Like I said before, some DV cameras have stop-motion animation capabilities, but they're very few and far between. I was looking at a camera that did have the ability, as well as time lapse, but I opted for the DVX even though it didn't have those options ... because the DVX is one hell of a sexy mistress...

Anyway, agreed, film does have an excellent quality, and if I was doing stop motion I'd want film for it. I just don't think, at the moment anyway, DV is suited for it.

I have a wicked Canon XL Super 8 camera with a crystal sync motor, but I haven't used it for years. The last time I had to order film from a company that actually cut 35mm into 8mm strips, but that was in '99 (for my first TV show open).

But good luck with it! I loved Super8. I shot all my early films on it and loved it. It was always a real heartstopper waiting a week to get the film back from the lab at Walgreens in Chicago.
