Yeah, I know, some modern day movies have good gore scenes. I'm talking about Fulci's Zombie (eye scene) & Romeros Dawn, Day..
It just seems lately that movies cant bump the good stuff out anymore
I could use a good new stiff line of gore.

plus tasteless gore cheapens it to the point of black comedy, like in brain dead.

the unrated verison of dawn 04 was ma 15+ here, personally i am kinda happy with gore in modern movies it looks more effective and isn't over the top.

I agree... I'd rather have a good story line... and only horrific scenes if/when/where really required.

Yep i'd have to say the same i would perfer a good story line,i think i was first aware of this when first seeing the director's cut of Dawn 78!
When i saw that it looked no better than an argento film or even a fulci film,i think one of Dawns greatest strentghs is the theatrical release!
It cut down the cheesy effects and cheesy music and it became the top contender that it is!
I like the director's cut myself but their was somethings that may have hurt the film had it kept some of those shots!
example:the basement scene just before the black soldier kicks open the little shoot door and says "jesus christ",it shows a dummy of a zombie shot in the head and that was cheesier than the pizza i had last night!:D

I didnt say compare it to the storyline, a movie can still have TRUE gore and a good storyline.

There is plenty of gore in movies around this days, and many movies have much more gore than fulci used in all his carreer. But if you want to see mindless splatter, watch those independent-Horrorflicks. Stupid stories, actors stolen from the set of a porn movie and painfully dumb dialogs, BUT plenty of limb-hacking, eye-gauging and so on.
btw. "Land of the dead" ist at least as gory as "Day" or "Dawn".

You're thinking of Evil Breed - The Legend of Samhain, huh? Gore alone does not make the movie, as we know. We need artistic gore.

I've never understood the facsination with gore in film. It has always seemed exploited and sensational and really never serving the story. I'm generalizing of course, but I think gore only works when serving the storyline and never works when shown for gore's sake.
When does it work for me ? When it isn't used as a gag.
