NEW YORK — Paris Hilton will serve about half of her 45-day jail sentence and will be separated from the general inmate population, authorities said Wednesday.

The hotel heiress will spend about 23 days in a "special needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Center in suburban Lynwood, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

Her sentence was shortened after jail officials gave her credit for good behavior, Whitmore said. Officials considered several factors in calculating the credit, including that she appeared for her latest court date, he said.

Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates, he said.

Like everyone else in the 2,200-inmate facility, Hilton will get at least an hour outside her cell each day to shower, watch television, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone, he said.

The 26-year-old socialite was sentenced to jail this month for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. A judge ordered her to report to jail by June 5.

Damn, it must be nice to be rich.

Just turning up for your trial gives you credit? :s

I don't know what it's like in the US, but over here "special needs" means "learning difficulties"... apparently very fitting in her case.

I wonder if they would allow us to cane her in public 45 times in exchange for no jail time. That would be sweet. Who wants to write the letter to the governor? I suggest using crayons and childish English perhaps then it will show younger generations are thirsty for blood and can be perhaps convinced to avoid doing bad things by of course breaking the law. I mean obviously the threat of jail time does nothing for the youth of America.

Even still i'd settle for her dad or a family member (someone with an axe to grind prefferably) pulling her pants down in public and spanking her 45 times too.

There's a shock, it's sick really, one rule for them and one rule for us ... really, celebs are basically a bunch of Socialists in that respect. :elol:

Anyway, good behaviour?! She was photographed/filmed DRIVING THE DAMN CAR - YET AGAIN - after being in court, good behaviour my arse...and self-involved whore like that doesn't know the meaning of it.

Lame. At least she hasn't been at one of those farm hotel/jail things like I was expecting her to go to, a la Martha Stewart.

The only difference is she will be in Protective Custody. Other than that the time off for good behavior is normal. My cousin was sentenced to 30 days in jail once and he got out in 16. It is normal practice in the US unless you get a life sentence or the death penalty.

So she really is getting no different treatment other than being put into protective custody.

How's 23 days in 'protective custody' gonna teach her a lesson? Will she be allowed to take her make-up bag in there? I bet the silly bitch'll spend 20 hours on her cell phone alone.

Most people could do 23 days standing on their head!

I don't know what's worse, that this socialite skank is getting off light or that this whole non-issue is polluting the airwaves as a "major headline".

What is this, class society?

Apparently she turned up 2 days early, no doubt a vain attempt to be on "good behaviour"...yeah, like the same good behaviour where she drove her feckin' car after being sentenced, prior to which she'd already driven her car when she wasn't allowed by the law. What a dumb whore, she deserves death so we don't have to continue to suffer her on our TV screens.
