So I try to locate the correct party to make a complaint against the police department and I came across this... sounds awesome!

ShotSpotter
In cities across the country, criminals now know that police will be notified within seconds when they discharge a weapon, thanks to an innovative system called ShotSpotter. The ShotSpotter system uses an array of small sensors placed on rooftops throughout the city. The ShotSpotter Gunshot Location System leverages acoustic techniques to pinpoint the location of gunfire within seconds. Confirmed gunfire events are immediately reported, through police dispatch, to officers on the street.

For police, knowing the location of the shot speeds the investigation and increases officer safety, and to criminal it could mean a trip to jail.

Of course they need that where I live but its doubtful that they have it.

And of course this is all based on the assumption that criminals won't wise up, figure out where these things are, and destroy them. Not to mention exactly how many of these things will be needed in order to cover an entire city, and how accurately they can distinguish gun shots from really loud sounds.

Charleston is a bad city? I wouldn't have thought that.

Sounds good assuming the criminal doesn't use a silencer. Or just switch to a knife instead of using a handgun.

But then you would lose your prize fashion accessory. You couldnt look quite as gangsta if you cant hold your gun sideways. And A knife requires the risk that you may fail and even *gasp* get your own ass kicked

Often the tail gate of a commercial large truck coming down is as loud as a gunshot, so who knows how accurate it is?

It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cities and areas i've ever lived in but its also the most dangerous place i've ever lived. Violent crime has affected my life here on numerous occasions to the extent I feel like I should travel with a gun. Its a tremendous problem for the city as they try to take tourists away from Savannah which is a very similar city but much cleaner and more friendly. Where I live I hear gunshots all the time, and I live in the best part of my town lol... the worst part of town you hear them all the time.
